Small jobs welcome

"Etmond reached out quickly after I inquired and then we were able to set up a time to review the projects. He did an exceptional job including tweaks to or replacement of our kitchen cupboards hinges, replacement of curtain rods with accompanying installation of blinds, and new door hardware and lock. He was friendly, reliable, professional and his pricing was very competitive. I definitely plan to hire him again and have already started preparing a future list of projects for the spring season. "Chad is our go-to guy for multiple tasks around the house. He really is a jack of all trades when it comes to home repairs. He most recently handled a guest bathroom makeover for us which involved some plumbing, electrical and carpentry. As with all his work for us, it turned out great."

"I highly recommend Jerry Brammer of The Handyman Services for pretty much any construction needs and repair services you might have. Jerry has saved my life several times since I first hired him in Nov of 2016. I had literally gone through 6 contractors trying to renovate a duplex in Delmar dealing with issues including paying for work not done, work done incorrectly and simply trying to get them to show up. I was living in a demolition nightmare and at the end of my rope when I found Jerry. He was the first one to walk into my disaster with a positive attitude. He's been working for me ever since. I haven't found anything that Jerry can't handle and he approaches the problem as if he's working in his own home. He's honest, realistic, flexible and thorough all at a fair price. The work he has done for me includes electrical (repairing/installing lights and outlets), plumbing (replacing hot water heaters, repairing leaks, running new pipes, clearing sewer lines), carpentry (constructed a bedroom closet, a porch, trim work, etc), refinishing my wood floors, sheet rocking, taping and painting (interior & exterior), replaced gutters, installed fencing, cut down small trees with stump removal, landscaping and most recently put in a sidewalk."

"Russell is a great person to work with, he went out of his way to make sure everything was running smoothly and on time. The people he had doing my job were pleasant and easy to get along with. Russell made sure we were happy with the job his crew was doing and keep things running on time. I would recommend RTS Construction for my next building job."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

A professional childproofer will first survey your home to identify potentially dangerous locations, including stairs, cabinets, and pools. Once approved, your professional will order and install the safety equipment for you.

Some ways a childproofing professional will make your home safe include:

  • Anchoring large furniture

  • Installing safety gates

  • Installing safety latches on cabinets and drawers

  • Covering railings that could trap a child

  • Covering electrical outlets

  • Installing a swimming pool fence

  • Removing or covering electrical cords where possible

The best time to hire a childproofing professional is at least three months before your due date. Although it might seem early, proper childproofing takes time, especially if you need extensive services like a pool fence. Getting your house ready now before your child is on the go only helps to protect them at all stages of life.

Many parents, especially first-time parents, agree that professional childproofing is worth it. These professional childproofing services are trained to recognize dangerous home situations that many people would overlook until it's too late. Furthermore, professional childproofing experts have access to top-of-the-line equipment you can't purchase at most stores, providing longevity and peace of mind.

The average cost of childproofing services is $410. This cost can range from $190 to $630 or more, depending on the size of your home and what services you need.

The location of the childproofing additions also plays a vital role in the overall cost. For example, a bathroom is relatively small and costs about $150 to fully childproof. However, if you have a swimming pool, you could spend as much as $1,500 to $10,000 to make it entirely safe for small children, including adding a pool fence.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.
