After interviewing three different roofing contractors, we decided to go with Try-Lock Roofing for several reasons. Bill from Try-Lock was not only very knowledgeable, but by far the most professional. We knew before we requested an estimate from him that the company had been in business for a long time, (three generations), and that was very important to us. We also were very impressed with the fact that Try-Lock is designated as a and quot;Master Elite Rooferand quot; by GAF, the manufacturer of the roofing system that was installed. We wanted to make a careful decision about which roofing company to use not only based on quality, value, etc., but also based on which company we thought would be most considerate of, not only us, but our neighbors as well. We observed as three nearby neighbors had their roofs replaced, (all using different contractors), within two months prior to having ours replaced, and were very surprised and disturbed by how very inconsiderate those roofing contractors were. Bill assured us that the crew would be professional, respectful, and considerate. They were. Also, they did a great job cleaning up afterwards.
Bill's estimate ended up actually being the highest of all three companies we interviewed. However, after much thought, we decided that it was the right decision because we just had that much more confidence in the quality and felt that the entire process would be
satisfactory. We are very happy with the outcome.
The only complaint that we have is that, even though we opted to not have our gutters replaced, Bill told us that the crew would clean all of the gutters as a courtesy. They did not do that. I was hopeful that, after sending them a questionnaire that they had asked us to complete in which I mentioned that the gutters were never cleaned, we would hear back from them and that they would see that the gutters were cleaned. We are disappointed that that hasn't happened.
Overall, we were very pleased. I even had Bill go to my Dad's house and give him an estimate for his roof. My Dad ended up signing with him and he now has a new, high quality roof. (He got new gutters....)

Terrible. They just couldnt seem to admit that they caused the leak. We argued for years and their lawyer make very nasty and unnecessary personal accusations and comments about my motivations for bringing this case. Finally, immediately before the mandated BBB arbitration they offered me a small settlement to avoid arbitration. Fortunately I said no and was awarded considerably more though not enough to cover all the expense, not to mention hassle they caused me. Read their contract carefully. It states they arent liable for much of anything. So much for a guarantee!
Response from Try-Lock Roofing Company Inc

"We provided an estimate for a roof repair in September 2006 for [name removed] through a recommendation by her parents and Aunt. We were shown the front entrance roof area that was being repaired and having the ceiling replaced by her father, due to the roof leaks. She and her father requested an estimate on repairing the base of 3 valleys. We provided her a cost of $ 1,335.00 for the repair to tear off and install a 10’ x 5’ EPDM rubber at base of valleys with the proper tie in under the existing deteriorated shingle roof as per manufactures specifications. Our experienced salesman highly recommended a complete roof replacement rather than the repair to prevent the possibility of leaks coming from above. He agreed to help them out with the repair rather than a costly roof replacement due to the relationship we had with her parent’s and Aunt installing their roofs some 10 years ago. She experienced a leak several days later and we immediately responded to service her roof and upon further inspection from the attic we found the leak to be coming from the roof sections above. We attempted to repair the valleys, cracking shingles, skylight flashings, and nails protruding through the shingle tabs at no additional charge. It should be understood that this was a repair and an attempt to save her money rather than a complete roof replacement. In March 2009 she had another leak and decided to contact the BBB to make a complaint. She sent the BBB and us a letter stating that other contractors advised her that the shingle roof sections above the flat roof needed to be torn off and replaced. She provided the BBB with an estimate from another contractor and his estimate Stated; 1. Remove all areas of roofing down to deck. Remove all debris from owner’s property. 2. Install W.R. Grace Ice and Water shield along both valleys and along the entire top of the membrane (EPDM) roofing. Tuck the top of the ice and water shield under the existing roofing felts. Their contract did not state that they were removing the EPDM so it is assumed they are re-using the EPDM we installed. This is exactly what we explained to her during the first visit. The matter was settled with the homeowner through the assistance of the BBB. We have been in the Roofing business for over 86 years spanning 3 generations and warrant all of our complete roof installations; most come with Manufactures inspections along with 100% labor and leak coverage, but not on repairs such as this. The Terms and Conditions in our NYS Legal contract are no different than any other professional contractor or home builder’s contract. Our contract was written by a local Buffalo Attorney with proper and legal protection for the homeowner as well as what NYS requires."

Went great! The work was done within 2 days of my phone call. I was concerned that we may have to replace the skylights or the flashing around them. Chris was very honest and recommended we seal them until we were ready for a new roof. This is the second time we have used Try Lock.

Much cheaper price quoted than other companies, they stuck to their quote. We have not had any problems with the roof this winter. We did hire them agian to seal some skylights. They are very efficient and professional and honest.
