Initially things progressed according to schedule. However, due to the economic downturn, we had difficulties obtaining a construction loan in the middle of 2008. We had to delay the remainder of the construction to 2009 and we commenced the work in March of 2009. This phase of the construction was to be completed under a separate contract valued at $132,000 with a deposit of $50,000 due to get started. The anticipated date of completion in the contract was set to June 15, 2009. However, Schwebel told me that he'd be finished well before then. Initially the work started according to schedule. However, as we approached the anticipated completion date and he had received most of the payments due according to the contract, progress came to a standstill and Schwebel would not return my phone calls anymore. When I asked for an approximate schedule to complete the work my request was met with a "I'm doing the best I can" and "You'll get it when I get to it" type of attitude. At the end he stopped responding to me alltogether. I finally lost my patience and got an attorney involved. Initially Schwebel responded promptly to my lawyers inquiry saying that he'd forward the matter to his attorney. This was over 2 weeks ago and we are still waiting for him to respond with his attorney's contact information. Also, expensive plumbing supplies that I paid for (Duravit / Dornbracht) went missing and there is substantial damage at the construction site right now (i.e. broken windows, etc.). When I brought in an other contractor to review the remaining work, I discovered that a lot of work that was supposed to be completed and not in fact been finished. Right now, I have a lawyer filing a suit against Schwebel. A background check also revealed that there are several judgements outstanding against him. In summary, I must warn everybody to do any business with Mark Schwebel as he is clearly not intend on getting the job done but is looking for a way to scam money from trusting individuals.
