Chimney Plus

Rich was absolutely incredible. He was so proactive in identifying areas that could be of concern/lead to safety issues and found issues that multiple other professionals including other chimney sweeps did not find. He gave us a lot of his time for a super fair price and was honest that he didn’t believe we needed a cleaning. He identified a huge issue with our fireplace and immediately presented a solution so that we could use it in time for Christmas! He also noticed a faulty pipe in our HVAC system which the other vendor also missed. Would recommend 1000%! What a true professional with a tremendous work ethic!

I had the pleasure to have Rich, who is the owner/operator of Chimney Plus, come up for an estimate....what we called in the olden days a regular one man show. He showed up on the scheduled date and time and even texted when he was on his way. I found Rich to be fair, honest, affable and professional. He knew his stuff and was more than happy to take his time to explain what was needed, and refreshingly, what didn't need to be done! He takes obvious pride in his work and it shows in the precision he exhibited in making the clean-out more accessible for maintenance and quality of materials used for the job. I couldn't be more pleased! Do yourself a favor; get the usual 1 or 2 estimates for the exact job, listen to what the others have to say and then call Rich...I think you'll notice the difference!

Turns out, we didn't need a cleaning after all, 2 years after the last one. Rich gave us his honest opinion that we were good to go for several more years and he charged only for the cost of coming out to inspect both the chimney and the vent line, as well as offering advice on what to look for ourselves. He strikes me as a very honest guy who won't try to provide any service you don't actually need. My only minor gripe was that it took several attempts over a couple of weeks to get an appointment with Chimney Plus, no doubt in part because it's the busy season. However, I'd rather schedule an appointment for far out in the future than not hear back at all.

I had a chimney sweep come out to perform a cleaning. While he was there, he informed me that a needed a new chimney liner installed to the tune of $3000. I called Rich at Chimney Plus to get a second opinion. He came out immediately and looked at the "crumbling, unsafe" flue that the prior chimney sweep said needed a liner. Aside from the top 2 flue tiles, my flue was in great shape. He said they could be replaced, but they didn't even need to be, they weren't in bad enough shape that he would worry about it. I am very thankful that I had Rich come out to look at the chimney, it saved me a lot of money and taught me to never call the original chimney sweep again.

Rich is a conscientious and knowledgeable individual who is passionate about doing a good job and treating the customer with honesty and integrity. I don't know why you'd hire anyone else!

Others' reviews of Rich could not be more spot-on. He is a throwback to an era and perhaps more importantly a different part of the country where people respect their craft put honest advice above making a quick buck. I can't imagine using anyone else for Chimney needs. He was thorough but efficient and shared information that was useable--as opposed to trying to knock you over with jargon. We had issues with smoke backing up into the house, which he quickly diagnosed as a bad damper, but also pointed out that there was a second damper on the chimney that was still in great shape. So rather than try to sell me more than I needed, resolved the problem by removing the broken damper and adding a chimney cap. He also inspected our boiler chimney and while noting that replacement would be reasonable now, it isn't really needed for several more years, and we can do it any time between now and then when we're ready. We had spoken to other providers who clearly viewed their job as trying to replace/repair as much as humanly possible, right now. The concept of assessing whether or not something can be put off was a completely foreign concept to them.

Outstanding. I was converting from oil to gas and needed to put in a lining in the chimney to comply with White Plains city regulations. The work was completed in timely and professional manner. The linning material itself was a little costly but it was excellent quality. The cost included the instllationof a new fleu. The supervisor in charge of the oil to gas conversion even commented to me how impressed he was with the quality of work. There were no surprises and I am very satisfied with the work done. Chimney Plus is an honest and trustworthy contractor I would hoghly recommend.

Very professional and informative. Richard arrived on time for chimney sweep service of our new home the day after I called for an appt, inspected all 3 chimney flues and told me none of them needed cleaning. He also looked at the oil furnace flue and cleaned out the debris, and spent 10 minutes advising on the safest way to build fires in our fireplaces. Only charged me for the service call ($100). Highly recommend and would certainly use his service again.

He did a very thorough cleaning. He is very professional and polite. He comes highly recommended!

I first met Rich when my furnace was not working properly.The service company I was using told me they could not fix it, and that I needed a new furnace. Rich was suggested as an outside consultant, and soon had the furnace working smoothly.
I hired Rich again later as a Chimney Sweep. Another Chimney Sweep firm had told me I needed to have my furnace chimney re-lined. Rich told me that was not true, and simply cleaned my two chimneys for a very reasonable fee.
He is very competent, honest, and an all round nice guy. I have also since referred him to my neighbor who was also very satisfied with his services.

He returned my call early the next morning, explained his prices and we set up an appointment for the following week. Arrived promptly, got right to work and gave us his opinion and repaired the fireplace brick. He charged us for a service call.

i was told that my chimney fumes was backup into the boiler causing smoke in the basement. The boiler company told me it was the chimney.... Chimney plus explained how everything functioned and showed me what I needed to understand. The problem being the boiler...

He is extremely honest. Someone else told us the chimney needed to be redone, but this guy told us it didn't need to be redone. He was very personable and nice. I recommended him to our neighbors, who also liked him. He also fixed our furnace when no one else could.

I had had trouble with other chimney sweep companies in the past, wondering if they were doing work that wasn't necessary. So I consulted Angie's List, and the reports on chimney plus addressed this concern, and he was noted to be honest and fair. I called him, and he came about 10 days later, after i described to him my use of the chimney (15 fires per year, a few hours each), and the gas heat furnace that uses a second flue. He came promptly, told me my flues were clean, and that I probably wouldn't need him for about 5 years, if i continued the same usage. He also showed me how to clean parts myself, how to tell when to call him, and how to do preventative care of the chimney. The only downside was the cost (he had told me ahead, that it was $95 + tax to come and look, before he did any work). Other places were certainly cheaper, but I always spent more than that due to extra work.

WITH ANY HOMEOWNER, THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND IS TRUST, AND I TRUST THEM. THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL. HE IS VERY THOROUGH ABOUT WHAT HE DOES. IT IS HIS AREA OF EXPERTISE. AT THE END OF THE DAY THERE WAS A NET RESULT.

IT'S EXCELLENT AND EVERYTHING. HE WAS POLITE. HE DIDN'T LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND. THERE WAS NO DUST OR ANYTHING. HE WAS RESPONSIBLE AND VERY CAREFUL. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM AT ALL.

THEY ARE A GOOD COMPANY TO DEAL WITH. THEY WERE NEAT AND CLEAN. THE QUALITY OF WORK WAS B QUALITY. THEY WERE CLEAN AND QUICK. THEY WERE NICE PEOPLE TO WORK WITH.

CHIMNEY PLUS I FELT WAS A VERY PROFESSIONAL COMPANY. I HAVE RECOMMENDED THEM TO A LOT OF MY FRIENDS. THEY CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES AND THEY WORKED VERY QUICKLY.

This company was recommended by our oil company. They were very prompt,we had a backup of suet into the house and they came right away. They were neat, very efficient and informative.
