RAY'S ROOFING

We hired this company several years ago because they had a clean record on the Better Business Bureau's website and because their estimate was reasonable. They were punctual and seemed to do a good job. As they were doing the job, they noticed a leak in a different area of the roof and brought it to our attention. We had them fix it for a reasonable additional charge. The only negative at the time was that they did not clean up the wood shavings caused by the addition of the ridge vent. Overall we were pleased by their service at that time. The reason I have given them low grades for insulation is because of what we learned recently. (I have given them high grades under the roofing category because they work they did in adding the ridge vents was good.) Ever since Ray's Roofing did the insulation, we had noticed that while things had improved in terms of lower heat costs, there still seemed to be problems. Repeated ice dams in the winter in some areas of the roof seemed to indicate heat loss. So we decided to look into whether additional insulation might be needed. When we called this company again, they said they would charge us $50 just to come out and take a look and give an estimate for additional insulation. We did not take them up on this. We called other companies (based on positive reviews on Angie's List). During the check up by one of these companies, we saw that the work that had been previously done was haphazard--the insulation had been blown in well in some areas of the attic, but other areas were not covered. It seems like the person from Ray's Roofing doing the insulation had blown in the cellulose insulation into places that were easy to reach without making an attempt to get to the harder to reach areas of the roof, such as the sloping sides or around the dormers. In light of this new information, I now believe that the work done by Ray's Roofing was inadequate, sloppy and not worth the money.
