There was minimal breakage.
Mark is a man of high integrity and a very hard worker. He even worked on Fathers' Day to complete the move.
the above Moving Company.
- Called at the end of May and scheduled them for July 25th
@ 8am ? Called on July 23rd and verified the date and time.
- Agreement was (4) men at a total of $100 per hour
8:00am on July 25th I received a call from Mark
Skloda stating that he had made a mistake (kind of blamed it on his wife who
sets up the appts) and had gone to the location of his 2nd job for
that day out in Manlius vs my place in Liverpool. He asked me if I would
be willing to let him stay in Manlius and complete that job first which was to
take him at least 4 hours. I said ?No? and thought it was unprofessional
that he asked that of me. He arrived at my place around 8:30am and
apologized for being late. ONLY (3) men, including Mark, showed up
for the move. During the unloading process, one of the movers was
observed standing on my dining room table in order to reach a mattress that was
piled up behind it. Mark spent most of his time on the phone and trying
to get his truck to start after arriving at the unloading destination.
90% of the actual moving was handled by just (2) men. The entire move
only took 1 ½ hours. I had moved the boxes and small fragile items the
week earlier.
When it came time to settle the bill, he was charging me
$400. He said they have a 4 hour minimum. I was kind of surprised
and said I wasn?t aware of that. His became very defensive and borderline
rude. He insisted his wife had told me & I just said that maybe I
forgot. Then I had to remind him that there were NOT (4) men, only 3 so
he needed to reduce the hourly rate. Again he was defensive. He
kept telling me that they had raised their rates since then. I told him I
would not pay new rates that were not in affect when I scheduled them. He
just kept saying I should not have moved the boxes myself. He acted like
he was doing me a favor and the final charge was $360. He noted on the
bill that he had an hour travel time. His office is in downtown Syracuse
& my move in Liverpool was no more than ¼ of a mile.
They said payment is either by check or cash, but that he
preferred cash. I would suggest that people pay with check so that they
have the opportunity to assess damages after he and his crew are gone and stop
payment if necessary. I found some minor damage (dings & scratches)
on a few pieces, but the entire length of my box spring had what appeared to be
black grease. They banged the ceiling with the box spring leaving 3 black
streaks about 6 inches long each and they were about a half dozen places on the
carpet that had the same substance. I am having trouble getting it out
completely.
I contacted his office to provide feedback regarding the
minor damages, grease, and employees standing on my table. I did not ask
for any refunds. I just told her that I thought they would want to know
for future reference and that I would not recommend them. I then received
a call on July 30th from Mark. He was rude, unprofessional,
and basically called me a liar about any grease or dings on the
furniture. He said in order to protect his reputation, he was issuing me
a full refund check in the amount of $360, and I said fine. That was a
week ago and I have not received any check.
I can understand that there can be minor damage during a
move, and I can understand a mistake being made in regards to his wrong
destination, BUT he should not have asked me to be inconvenienced because of it
and when you put the rest of the problems I encountered, I really have to
question his professionalism.
- Giving us ten minutes notice ,they arrived three hours early....five man crew (so, at the end, charged a bit more than quoted) - moved fast and obviously experienced and efficient. Some griping between workers and from owner to workers, but that's all in a days work I suppose...I found it a bit hard to communicate my important information such as that I had not found and secured all of my cats and thus closed doors instead (i.e. do not open those doors) or that anything fragile was labeled in a particular color (had to try to tell each one individually versus central person)...but none of them ever stopped moving (important to us as the charge was by the hour) and all workers were polite at both ends of the move. We offered Gatorade and MacDonalds which were graciously consumed...
Communication with the office in getting the bid and scheduling was very professional and helpful initially and with follow-up questions about how boxes should be secured. During the move, the owner was not only present, but working hard and on top of issues that we brought up or that he expressed (like safe moving of our washing machine).
Great performance and deal compared to the quotes we received -- our first use of professional movers.
Mark is very professional, always on-time and does exactly what he says he will and at the price promised.
