Kevin Colangelo Premiere Disc Jockeys LLC

We hired Kevin 1 full year before the wedding. He was, by far, the most expensive DJ we interviewed. He induced us into contract with his 37-years of experience -- all the 'intelligent lighting' he offered 'free of charge'..... the high quality sound system he provided, ... his British accent,.....his claims to fame on his website. We signed a contract with him one year before the wedding. We selected the "Kevin Colangelo' package -- which GUARANTEES Kevin Colangelo as the DJ. The contract also specifically lists uplighting, accuspot lighting (intelligent lighting) and an 8-array sound system. We paid him $400 upfront.We paid him the remaining $1100 a month before the wedding (per the contract). A week later, he told us that we owed him $450 more if we wanted him to perform at our wedding --- OR we had to agree to a change in DJ. Our options at that time were: Pay an additional $450 --making his services now worth almost $2000 Cancel our contract and lose the $400 deposit AND have to find another DJ service to perform in 3 weeks Or agree to the change in DJ Under duress, we agreed to a specific alternate DJ. Kevin told us this DJ had worked for him for many years.... After we agreed to the DJ change , Kevin admited he couldn't have made our wedding anyway because he had booked another event the day before ours and would not have been able to get to ours in time. For the remaining 3 weeks, we could not get Kevin to return our calls/e-mails 2 days before the wedding THE ALTERNATE DJ called to tell us we'd be getting two young DJ's who work for another DJ service. (We ultimately find out that the alternate DJ was, in fact, the owner and operator of another DJ service. The DJ's that performed at our wedding actually worked for him.) After the wedding, we asked for 1/2 of our money back ($750) for Breach of Contract.. After numerous e-mails, Kevin admitted that he didn't even know who DJ'd our wedding. He also tried to tell us we owe him MORE money because the outsourced DJ's brought more uplighting than he would have (remember he advertised FREE lighting). We also never got the 'intelligent' accuspot lighting that we had asked for and the sound system we received was no where near the quality we contracted for. Kevin refused to return 1/2 of our money. After 3 months of correspondence, and continued failed follow-up by Kevin, we had to take him to court. The judge ruled in our favor -- awarding us $650. Kevin was told to pay us within 30 days or file an appeal. Kevin did neither. It is now 4-5 months after the judgment and he has still failed to pay us. We are now forced to get legal paperwork filed and have the sheriffs dept intervene.
