I was happy with the estimate process, as it was handled by the owner's father who clearly knew his business. He gave me a very reasonable estimate in late April of 2013 and guaranteed the price through the rest of the season.
When we decided to go with Hoxie I contacted the company and was told that they were booked and were unsure if they'd be able to do the job that season. I received a phone call a few weeks later stating they had a crew available and would be starting the job on an upcoming Monday. I returned home from work the Friday prior to learn that the paint crew had been to my house and did the initial powerwashing of the house and garage, unbeknownst to me. There were paint chips all over my property, they had damaged some landscaping, and neglected to remove the furniture from our deck (which we had planned to do prior to the Monday they were scheduled to come) resulting in our $500.00 dining set being covered in paint chips, filthy water, and dirt.
I contacted the owner, who promptly apologized and stated that the crew would pick up the mess once the prep work on the house and garage was completed. Because they were not able to return for a few days the dirt and paint chips remained all over our property, landscaping, and deck furniture.
It took them more than two weeks to complete the job, as the weather was not terribly cooperative and it was a big job. The crew was very polite and kept us posted on their progress as they went along with the project. However, they were sloppy in their work...dropping paint all over my various roofs, landscaping, hardscaping, and windows. It took us pointing these things out multiple times before it was resolved. They also had to return after the job was done, as they clearly had not put two coats of paint on a section of the front of the garage, as the contract called for. I am still finding to this day little sections on the house where their painting was sloppy and have had to do small touch/clean ups myself.
The deck work appeared to be an afterthought, as the crew claimed to be unaware that the deck needed to be powerwashed and painted as well. They did a quick and cursory job when powerwashing the deck, missed multiple spots when painting that they had to fix, and got the deck paint on the newly painted house in several spots. To make matters worse, in April of this year when all the snow had melted and we could clearly see the surface of the deck, we noticed that the paint on it had essentially peeled off. I immediately contacted the owner, as we had never utilized the deck because the job was not finished until November of 2013, and sent him pictures of the deck. He apologized again, but told me that flat surfaces like the deck were not under warranty. I told him this was unacceptable as we had never used the deck after they completed the work and he recommended the product to me that they used. I also sent him a picture of my receipt that indicated there is a 5-year no peel warranty and that the house, garage, and DECK were listed on this receipt. He agreed to redo the deck...this was on May 7, 2014. There have been multiple text messages back and forth between the owner and myself each time with him promising he will take care of it and get a crew to my house ASAP. He has not even come to my house to look at the damage to the deck. It is now almost 5 months after my initial call to him regarding this issue and he still has made no attempts to remedy the situation.
It should be noted that his man obtained two major painting jobs courtesy of my friends asking who did the paint job on our house and garage. But, he cannot attend to an issue that has made my deck look hideous and has kept me from entertaining this summer.
The price for the job was exceptional, my initial meeting with the owner's father was very pleasant, and my interactions with the crew were generally positive. However, the lack of professionalism and follow through by this company has been highly disappointing.
