Excavating
$7,500
He steadily worked on the project and completed about 80% of the work when I made the mistake of paying him... in cash!  He refused to come back and finish the job and refused to give us a receipt for services.  I have the past 1 1/3 years trying to complete the job I paid him for.

Masonry

he Driveway thet he did has cracks in it
All the deficiencies follow:
Never totally filled the area with stone around the house
The two walls he built have been evaluated by several other Masonry people and they are falling down d/t they are built wrong... they should be flat and the wall should be wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, They put mulch in back of the walls ... as I now know mulch absorbs water and when this water freezes it pushes the walls causing collapse if there was dirt in back and drainage it would give the walls stability that they do not have.
The ground around the patio in the upper yard is eroding away.
I have been told by other masonry people in the industry that Fire development will never do any warranty work, they will just not do it. I have tried to contact them on several occasions. When I do get ahold of them, they make a date to come and do the repairs; the date comes and goes and they never show up; they do not even have the curtisy to call and cancel the appointment. We are very busy people with a busy rental business and to shift my schedule to accommodate them and then to not have them show.
I have  asked others what it would cost to do the repairs ... and d/t the two walls being built wrong ... in the first place ... they need to be totally taken down and re-built .
the driveway and the walks were never sealed.
fill in around the patio to repair the eroding ground under the concrete.
repair the cracks in the driveway and walks.
the cost of these repairs is $4,000.00 approximately ... then put some cost for cost over-runs & ... this is a lot for someone to handle ... for a person that is now retired and on a fixed income.
I would never use them again.
Note : They were recommended to us by the STAMP-CRETE CORPORATION ! We were told that Fire Development was the best.  I would never say that about them.

I signed his contract and gave him a deposit check which he required.  He immediately cashed the check and never returned to perform/complete the work he agreed to perform per the agreement.  After many phone calls, he said he was not going to do the work but would refund the money.  He never did.  He never responded to my or my attorneys' attempts to contact him.  I subsequently won a judgement against him in City of Syracuse Small Claims Court.  He has not complied with the court order to pay the money back to me.  If you want to see a copy of the judgement which is a public document, it's on file with the City of Syracuse and has also been transferred to Onondaga County.
I would strongly recommend that you use another contractor for work you need performed.

Please see the story above. We have lost valuable time to get out small business in order. I needed to have another contractor come in and evaluate prices for tasks he did not complete. He still does not return calls.
Although I fell bad about what happen and like Keith as a person, I find it necessary to bring him to small claims court to get back the money that I need (he was paid in full) to complete the work.
It has been very stressful for me and my family but I hold no anger against him. I realize that contractors tend to go where the bigger money is.
All that I asked for is for my job to be finished and is wasn't.

After quoting my walkway, porch and retaining wall project, I accepted Keith's proposal, signed his contract, and gave him a check for 50% of the total amount as he requested it.  We agreed upon a start date which was noted in the contract - and, I NEVER saw him again.  He NEVER returned to perform the work, he NEVER returned my calls.  I spoke with him weeks later when he finally answered his phone - said he was delayed on another project and would be out to do my job soon.  Still NEVER showed up or called.  I had to hire another company to do the work.

LEGAL CLAIM:  I sued him in Syracuse City Court in December 2011 to recover my money - and he never appeared.  I won a judgement against him in the City of Syracuse and in the County of Onondaga.  There is a lien on his property for what he owes me.

I have used dozens of contractors over the last 15 years without issue.  I absolutely do NOT recommend doing business with Keith Fire, Fire Development.

All work was completed on time and within budget. And if it was needed to stay late to complete a pour the entire company of employees was ready and willing to stay as long as needed to complete the pour. Keith Fire also is able to add his artistic and creative ability to a project that will in the end knock your socks off.
