JMP STAIRS & RAIL

We signed a contract and they stated they would do the work within 1 week.  We paid in advance for the replacement of our basement stairs.  There were many delays and reschedules and then they sent a tradesman who knew nothing about the agreed contract and who clearly was someone being subcontracted came to start from no knowledge.  The balance of the contract must have been too little for him to do the job.  Numerous calls and visits and no work was done.  We sued and were awarded a judgment.  The premises are still operating and they claim that our firm is out of business.   They have not refunded our money.  We had to have the work done by another firm.  We have been unable to collect the judgment.  According to the sheriff's dept, it would cost more to prove that the equipment in the shop is actually owned and lien free than the judgment.  Only if we had the bank account number of the firm would we have a chance. Stay away.

The stairs were too short.  The staircase would have to be rebuilt. They made multiple appointments with me that they would be there to fix the stairs and finish the railings but not one time did they show up. They won't refund my money and they won't finish the job.  I am already looking for other contractors now to finish the job. I have made multiple phone calls but the office worker (Rubin), and the owner, Mike have been totally unresponsive. My biggest mistake was  that I did not put a start and finish date on the contract, and the fact that I hired this company in the first place.

The quality of workmanship was poor. The joints did not match. There was discoloring of the wood. The stairs themselves were fine. The top rail was in different sections. The uprights were OK. The job didn't look like it was finished correctly and was not a neat job. They were not very professional with the job. They did clean up after themselves. The quality in the work was not there however. They were hard to get a hold of. They did show up when they said they would.

UNFORTUNATELY, MY WIFE WAS THE ONE THAT WAS HERE FOR MOST OF THE WORK THAT WAS DONE, BUT WHAT I DID SEE WAS THAT THEY WERE COURTEOUS, DID THE JOB, & FINISHED. THEY DID THE JOB & GOT OUT OF HERE WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD. THEY TREATED HER WITH RESPECT & THE WOODWORK IS OUTSTANDING.
