Our house is unique because of it's octagon shape and very large open plan with very irregular shapes.  Landers spent a considerable amount of time helping us decide how to go about insulating and sheet rocking the place.  There were a lot of moving parts and this process took longer than I wanted it to.  I now realize that this is the way he ensures that he is able to meet the demands of customers.  Once the contract is signed then you are his priority (as it should be) and the job was completed in a very reasonable time frame.
Aside from the quality of workmanship which was exacting there are several things that set Landers apart.  The first is that the price was fair and reasonable.  Sometimes it is important to get 3 bids but in a smaller market like ours you tend to know who the players are, their reputation and if you know enough about construction from past experience (or in my case because my other half is a contractors daughter), you know when you are getting fair value.  Landers does not charge a premium for the other services that are part of the job and this can make a significant difference in the cost.
The second thing is flexibility.  Half way through the job before the sheet rock went up on the ceiling we decided to change the look and cover the beams rather than trying to preserve them.  This was really only possible to see once the insulation went up and we could see how much room was left.  We switched gears and ended up with a whole different look and then ended up expanding to re sheet rock other areas now that we were going for a modern look.  Landers made a change order for the additional work, the increased cost was entirely reasonable and so we felt it was easy to make changes as long as we were sensitive to the timing of things.  A good relationship between a contractor and a customer requires both parties to act responsibly.
There were things had to be changed in mid-stream as always happens and in all instances Landers offered good solid advice on the options.  Things like finding that a brick wall was actually a faux brick wall with no insulation or the fact that putting back a custom bookshelf really didn't make sense vs building a new one.  There were things that they fixed on their own that were essentially design flaws in the way we laid out the kitchen (we did not use an architect) and in one instance he had to extend a wall slightly to make sure that the profile of the kitchen was esthetically pleasing.
And finally I have to say that Landers, Ken Landers and Ken Jr. as well as the folks on his crew and the folks that he brings in are all really nice and respectful people.  You have no fear of having people work in your house when you are not there or that they will make a mess.  Was truly a pleasure to work with them.

Both times I called him, I found him to be personable, knowledgeable, efficient and prompt.
First time i used him for a leak in the roof , he came the next day and removed the metal ridge cap, replaced with new shingle caps, set nails sticking thru shingles and sealed.
Good job, good cleanup. $244.00
During the heavy snow he came same day I called to remove heavy snow from roof around the periphery. $120.00
Good job.

The were totally trustworthy and we felt safe leaving them alone in the house. They proved to be everything they promised and our bathrooms are absolutely beautiful! We would highly recommend Lander's Construction.
