Insulation Service
The owner-- Mark Gugino, was described by a contractor as a "weird bird" and refused to call me by any other name than Mr. N.... even though I asked to be called by my first name. He told me that was "being a professional" on his part. The walls were sprayed well, covering a large job in a large house. The studs were cleaned off nicely for sheetrock, except certain areas from place to place.
The complaint that we have is the cleanup of floors and ALL the spray foam particles that blew all around for about 2 weeks (it came down like light lake effect snow). My contractor said that he picked up bags of blowing foam that had been ground off the house with an electric grinder for 2 weeks. Once fully paid, there was a detail that was missed. A phone call was never responded to- and I waited a week. The most serious problem was an area that was totally missed- where light could be seen through 7 spaces in joists. Mark claimed it was NOT in the agreement, but another wall next to this one was done by him- indicating that it was to be done as the walls were similar. The agreement does not exclude this wall, but says "rim joists" and does not exclude any interior rim joists. Finally, he told me to not "contact me again" without resolving the issue. He threatened to call the local sheriff if I ever did contact him again, and charge me with harassment. In fact, Mark made a call to the sheriff who called me and spoke to me. My only recourse now is to take him to court and to sue him. Our estimate from watching him work is that the disputed work would take less than one half hour to correct. So, while the job was done nicely and at a good price, his "bedside manners" which were sold to me as being "professional", were not at times-- no call back, refusal to correct the problem. The cleanup was not one of the best in the business according to my contractor, as I was sold that they would be. And the poor way that Mark chose to end our business relationship has left a very sour taste in my mouth.
If you google search the contractor's name you will find a NY StateCourt document that disbarred him from practicing Law in NY State for a period of one year. Of the reasons cited, I experienced 2. First, he engages in conflict of interest (WHere Mark writes his own reviews of himself on Yelp.com-- which the website deems as a "conflict of interest"). Second, the overcharging of clients, where my gut feelings were that he performed as he did because of his focus on making money, and not so much as completing the job well (my opinion). He proved this by adding on extras to my bill without first stating what he was doing would cost me, and by not completing the job, and by suggesting that I pay him an additional $500 to complete a half hour's work (that's overcharging!)
