I was very pleased with John, the work he did, the price, and his expertise.

John is a talented craftsman, conscientious worker, and a top-level professional. He is consistently punctual, trustworthy, good at communicating with the consumer, insures complete satisfaction with his work, and his prices are extremely fair. He has provided work for multiple members of our family in several different houses for the past 25 years. We depend on him for all of our home repair/remodeling needs and we highly recommend him.

We had met John a few years back when he co-led a youth mission trip to West Virginia to do carpentry and service projects for a week. Our son went along and they got on very well. Last summer we decided to re-do our kitchen. We remembered John and decided to give him a call. That sure turned out to be the right decision. John worked steadily until the job was done. He is very skilled, both in carrying out the work and in figuring out ways to make it more economical without a sacrifice of quality. I was convinced we'd have to replace the particle board floor, which had two layers of glued-down linoleum on top but John and two helpers managed to get the lino off without wrecking the particle board. He patched a couple of water-damaged places neatly, so the whole floor is solid. He also was fine with our wanting to do some of the work ourselves to save money, which is fairly rare--he even offered advice on how to do it and made space in the schedule. John and his guys, with some help from our 18-year-old son, put the cabinets together, installed them, and put butcher-block countertops on. The counter is in an L shape with a big farm-style porcelain sink in the middle, of one leg. John biscuit-joined the L section, so the countertops stay stable and flush. The result is a beautifully redone kitchen that we're thrilled with, with all new appliances, at a lower-than-average total cost. Along the way, various quality problems surfaced with the new Ikea flooring, mostly having to do with the poor quality mounting arrangement for the aluminum edging. We also had a design mixup (our fault) which had a cabinet extending 3 inches too far into a window opening. John figured out how to solve all these problems with no apparent difficulty. He took a prefab wall cabinet with wood veneer doors, and cut three inches out of it, making a 21-inch wide cabinet that looks perfect, but isn't in the catalogue. He works fast, cleans up, takes great pains over his work, and is also a pleasure to have around. Having a kitchen redone can be a bit stressful, especially since we mostly work at home, but John's confidence made it much easier to manage. He answers his phone, keeps his appointments, and does what he says he'll do. We have come to place a great deal of confidence in both his skill and his character. His charges are reasonable considering the quality of his work, which is really top-notch. He's so good that we're trying to think of what we can have him do next.
