DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!
1. They will not return my money even though the receipt (the contract of sale) does NOT state "No Refunds-Exchange or Credit Only".
2. The owners refuse to call me back to deal with my problem directly. Instead, I have to call them and they have their non-managerial, non-decision making employees deal with the call, even if they are in. Fifty years in business and they treat their customers (and employees) like they don't matter?
3. They do not want to deal with me because it is not my name on the receipt, but my boyfriend's? I have never heard of such nonsense in my life! The card used to make the purchase is mine, not my boyfriend's.
4. I'm told that it's too late to return the machine because too much time has passed. It's taken me months to deal with the bad customer service that I have received from both Danby and Smithtown; and they tell me it's too late to return the machine?
After having to deal with this kind of customer service, why would I want to accept any other resolution other than a refund?
I have been dealing with Smithtown Appliance for many years, maybe 20 or more. Their prices and customer service cannot be beat!
The advice of Vito senior and junior as well as the mother cannot be beat. They have all given me expert advice about the use and care of my appliances. Case in point: Spring of 2012, I had my kitchen remodeled. I went to them to ask about appliance selections. They asked me to consider a Kitchen Aid Suite. I went with their suggestions and could not be happier. Their pricing was very close to internet pricing. Their after sale service was even better! A few weeks after my kitchen was complete, I stopped at the store to see if I could get a couple of extra shelves for my refrigerator. Vito went to his floor model and gave me the shelves from his floor sample! About a year later, I had a problem with a 4 year old washer I purchased from them. Vito offered a repair suggestion for me and said if it did not work, he would have a new washer delivered the next day. Well, the repair suggestion, it worked just fine. Try getting that service from a PC Richards!
The most amazing service happened yesterday....My new stove was 2.5 years old....out of warrantee. I had never used the middle griddle burner and the knob was frozen. Vito sent a service team at no cost to me to fix the problem!
I know that many friends and neighbors share my enthusiasm concerning Smithtown Appliance. Please give them a try!
- they also called a couple days earlier to confirm the work to be done and ensure that they had everything they needed to complete the job
- they took measurements, removed the old ovens, modified the cabinet, and installed the new oven
- explained what they did, showed me how the ovens work, and turned them on for a half hour (to burn off new smell)
- they told me few installers would have had the stainless steel plate stocked on the truck. the installer's nephew works for another very well-known franchise appliance store doing installations and told me that he told them that if the new appliance doesn't fit they leave a hole or try to fix it in other ways. Whether or not that is true, the job was very professional.
ASK FOR KEITH to be your installer.
I paid the installer by check separately from my invoice from the appliance store, although Keith said if I needed him again for a service call I needed to call the store to arrange it. so I assume he is independent but works for/through the store.
I would use them again. I asked him a lot of questions about my range hood and my fridge and he was very helpful and didn't give me a hard time about it. Really nice guy. Price was fair, but still hurt my pocket, lol.
Double wall oven install was $250 + $50 for stainless steel plate + extra cabinet modification work + tax = $407
Additionally, we were promised 2 roller racks for the oven. It is now 8 months later and after at least 10 phone calls and emails to the store, we cannot obtain, in writing, the warranty that we paid for as indicated on our purchase receipt .
Additionally, we have been shipped a number of wrong racks for the oven.
My family has been purchasing from this store for over thirty years. This is the first time we have dealt with owners son Vito Jr. and the experience has been absolutely dismal.
We have filed a complaint with the New York State Department of Consumer Affairs, which we assume will bring about a resolution since we have everything in writing.
This store, in the past, was a model of customer service. Unfortunately, this no longer seem to be the case, at least in our experience. My wife and I, as well as our family members, will never do business with Smithtown Appliance again.
Even though we were smart consumers and got everything in writing, we still have not been successful in getting the store to fulfill its obligation to us.
We always try to do business with local business's rather than chain stores, but in the future, when it comes to appliances, we will reconsider our position.
