I had new railings and balusters put in on my 3 stair cases. I wanted to stain the railing a dark mahogany while keeping the balusters white (they came that way, so I didn't want to touch them). I was going to do the job myself, since I already stained all of the doors in the house, how hard could it be (so I thought). I had a number of painters I reached out to (mostly from angie's list). Some didn't return my calls, others were outlandish on the price, a couple wanted me to get the stain for them (the reason I reached out to a painter was I couldn't match the stain to the color of my fireplace mantel).
Two of the painters wanted to charge me to match the stain for their time, I guess that wasn't unreasonable if it took a lot of time.
Then Perry Martin came along, he tried to match the stain and spent several hours and trips to the paint store. He was getting close to a match too. Then I found out that the mill work company uses a person that is a furniture repair person and he had no trouble matching the stain and he said he does 100's to stair cases a year. I guess its a specialty but who knew?
The point of the long store is that Perry tried to match the stain (and came close) but he just couldn't match the experience is doing railings that the other person had. I thanked him for his time in matching the stain and felt bad I had to go with the other person. I offered him $100 for his time and he refused to take it (not many people would turn down $100).
I used him to paint the stringers and risers of the 3 stair cases and he did a great job. He came on a Saturday, since I needed it done and he wanted to help me out. Altogether a standup guy that does great work for a reasonable price. What more could you ask for?

!Perry was amazing! First of all I can say that Perry was actually a little more expensive then the other two quotes we got but we decided to go with him because he was going to be doing all the work himself and we could tell from our initial meeting that he was going to be very meticulous. He was in our home for about 4 weeks-most of this time the home was vacant since we had just purchased it so we gave him a key so he could come and go; we felt that he was extremely trustworthy. He would open windows every day to keep it aired out and would shut all of them and lock up every afternoon. He also worked well and was very accomadating to the other contractors we had working on the house. Perry not only removed wall paper in several rooms but he removed all old nails and curtain hardware that the previous owners left. He ended up using about 42 gallons of paint and 5 gallons of spackle as he completed the project at our house. He painted every closet, every wall, every ceiling, every baseboard, every heater cover and we could not be happier! We plan to get him to paint our garage and garage floor as well as our front door and garage door but we need to save up a little money before we can do it. Perry will take his time on your project and he isn't the cheapest but I would never go with anyone else because I know it was all done with great care and it shows!! Our house was built in 1970 but from the inside now it appears brand new. Thank you Perry!!! We look forward to having you do more for us in the future.

I don't like to contract painters and reluctantly did so due to time pressures. Perry was fantastic and we were lucky to have chosen him. We actually had to tell him it was ok not to prep the walls because of a lack of time and planning on our part! Perry is the consummate professional painter and I will use him again for sure.

You can set your watch to Perry - he's always on-time and returns phone calls.
Perry is a repeat vendor as he did some deck work for me last year.
He arrived at 9am and was done by 6pm and made sure water source was shut off and put garden hose back in place. Always punctual, neat, clean - (even brings his own ashtray as I'm a non-smoker - lol). Highly recommended and a great reliable person to have.

During 35 years of homeownership, I've contracted numerous paint contractors. Emerald is the best by far. Owner Perry Martin paid keen attention to detail when preparing surfaces. His painting was meticulous. While he understandably would not recommend colors, he provided us with guidance to make educated paint selections.
In addition, he is a delightful person, and easy to work with.

After inspecting our property, Perry Martin made an excellent, detailed estimate of the work required, the material required, and the time it will take for him to do the work alone. He helped us select the best material for the job. He seemed to us trustworthy, and demonstrated this throughout the whole job. The job entailed pressure washing the exterior of the house which he did excellently without affecting the landscaping nor door knobs or windows. The mahogany floor on the porch, which had never been treated, came out really beautiful. Perry is a real artist painting and takes pride in his work. When he finished, the house was like new and everything was cleaned. We have very strict criteria, and we can say that he was exceptional beyond our criteria.

Perry was very neat, did a terrific job, and we had no complaints. He was on time every morning which was wonderful. He also patched and fixed some imperfections in the walls in both the renovated areas and in the existing areas so everything looks really nice. His quote was accurate - no hidden surprises. He did work for friends of ours, which is how we heard of him, and they also were very pleased with everything.
