driveway pavers
  + -1 more
Chris provided the lowest of three bids for a small job of removing old driveway, and repaving, and extending pavement to new section of driveway.Paving crew showed up and started promptly in the morning. I was suprised to see that instead of his own truck and crew, he was supported by a fleet of vehicles from other contractors - Saul's Paving, and Stanley's Paving. and SRS Paving. I headed off to work. When I returned the new pavement was down. I soon learned that instead of carting off the "scrapings" of the old driveway, they carted the scraps approx 200' to an adjacent lot, and dumped them in the weeds, out of sight. This is not okay in my book. I paid for removal, they need to remove it and not just bury it in the side yard. After waiting a week for the pavement to 'cure', I was given the okay by Chris to park my Ford F250SD on the new section of pavement. The truck immediately sank about 1" leaving divot marks. Chris made an attempt to fill in these divots, and re-rolling, but the marks kept returning. Even several months later... I asked Chris whether his crew had put down any kind of membrane to keep his base coat from sinking into the native soil (some clay with aggregate) and responded yes. I found out later that he was not present during the install and never witnessed the installation of the membrane. Rather, now after several years have past, the driveway looks awful, I need to continually apply sealer to keep winter freezes from completely destroying the driveway. There are multiple locations where my truck has broken through the top coat. And, I can confirm that his crew, in his absence, never installed the necessary membrane. The end result is the pavement and base (crusher run) will continue to get crushed into the soft soil below it. In his defense, Chris tried to repair a problem that he was not aware of, and could have only been resolved by complete removal. It was clear that he was not prepared to do this. NOTE: Mogul Paving is directly related to a number of pavers in the community - SRS, Saul's, and Stanley are all related by bloodline. This explains the various trucks that showed at the start of the project. Chris Mogul is married to Christine Stanley Mogul.
Description of Work: Asphalt paving of a straight, 2 car width driveway, approximately 120' by 36' at its widest points. Quote was for $3000 to remove old crumbled pavement, dispose, and lay down a base of crusher run, a course coat of pavement, followed by a thinner top coat of asphalt.
