"Unfortunately for both the homeowners and I, everything that could go wrong with the job, did go wrong with the job. Their review was accurate. After confronting the two installers with the homeowner's review, one quit and the other was fired. I reminded the rest of the crew that details matter, and the bad reviews, like this one, hurt a company's reputation. The only fact I can deny about this review is that the homeowner was not rebated the cost for the job my company did. They we REPAID IN FULL with my apology for the problems they experienced. Dan Farley"
"August 19, 2015 Upon seeing the review written by Mr. [Member Name Removed], I searched my office for a roof job he said was completed on June 17th, 2012. I did not find a file or a contract for this job. I then sent the following letter to Mr. [Member Name Removed] on July 30, 2015: Mr. [Member Name Removed], My office alerted me to a negative review on Angie’s List. My records show no work completed on your house. Could you provide me with a copy of our contract with you? I warranty my work, and have done so for thirty (30) years – If we worked on your home in 2012 and there is a problem with our work, I will do everything possible to rectify those problems and satisfy you as our valued customer. With Respect, Dan Farley I never received a reply from Mr. [Member Name Removed]. I drove to his house. I did not recognize his neighborhood, I did not recognize his street, I did not recognize his house, and I did not recognize him. I asked him for a contract showing we did work there. He said the roof was actually done in 2000, and that he had no contract available to show me. I found no contract in my office for a roof job at his property in 2000. The problem with customer/contractor websites are that you can be accused , lied about and slandered without proof, and then what can you do about it?! Oh well, I’m going back to work now! With Respect, Dan Farley 8/20/15"
In this case, Farley got on both roofs in question, provided us with an analysis (including photos) and a detailed recommendation which we accepted. The garage roof was just old. It should be noted that Farley communicates in a timely, clear, coherent and thorough manner and never requires a down payment. He also does not try to sell you something you do not need-he is far more likely to be conservative in determining what might be required. No oversell or "mission creep" whatsoever. Farley and his highly competent crew kept me informed of material arrival and work start times. They always did exactly what they promised at precisely the time they promised it. This also applied when there were job changes initiated by me (adjustment to cupola, removal of insulation, adaptation of yankee gutter on house) or circumstance (rotten plywood on the garage). The job was done professionally, thoroughly and according to schedule. Clean up was impeccable and done daily.
I might stress that my wife and I spent over 30 years in Germany and we became accustomed to reliable craftsmanship and highly competent tradesmen. We have discovered these are rare in the United States and we are often very frustrated by this. In the case of Dan Farley, we have been pleased to experience a really honest, committed and capable contractor whose entire crew from apprentice to supervisor is highly competent and reliable.
If we had more roofs, Dan Farley would get the jobs
"• I mailed a contract to Mr. Bush on June 6, 2013. The instructions sent with the contract state: “The office will not schedule your job until the signed contract is received by our office.” My office secretary never received a signed contract from the homeowner. Consequently, even though the job was scheduled for completion by the end of June, it never was put on our job schedule board. • The 2013 spring and early summer weather in upstate and western New York State has been extremely poor – heavy and long duration of rain with high winds, lightning, and high humidity. Our job scheduling has been terrible for many, many months. My employees have not made enough money so far this year to even pay basic bills. In late June three (3) men on my crew quit and moved out of state to find more dependable work (two helpers and one mechanic). The only mechanic on my crew that had experience installing Hardi-Plank siding moved to Montana. This type of siding is the best siding product on the market. It is a difficult siding to install and is extremely expensive. My last trip to meet the home owner showed me a very clean and orderly house ( inside and outside). This man obviously wanted a perfect job completed by my company. After losing my main siding mechanic, I called three (3) siding sub-contractors to do this job. My experience in the past, using sub-contractors, has always been “less than favorable!” But, even these siding contractors were badly behind schedule and were not available to do this job for me. Since I was not experienced installing this type of siding, nor are anyone still on my crew, I told the homeowner by phone that I would not be able to do this job. I explained this to him in the details written above, but after talking on the phone for a few minutes, I realized the homeowner was not on the line – I assumed he hung up on me after I said “I’m not going to be able to do that job.” I recalled the homeowner as soon as I realized he was not still on the phone line. I only got his voicemail, and at that time left a message again explaining what happened (reasons listed above) with an apology. I will send a copy of this response to him by registered mail. Thank You, Dan Farley"
