James replaced the mechanical works in my Howard Miller clock. Gave me the option of changing it to battery operated. I decided on mechanical to keep it as original as possible. It was not cheap, but, worth every cent because James fully explained everything and used German works. I am extremely pleased.

James was very prompt and was able to fix the clock here at the house. So our tick is now back in tune with the tock and if any of the other clocks in the house have to be fixed we definitely will call them.

It was great. He helped me on the spot and only charged me for the battery - nothing for his service. Although he only performed a relatively simple service in this case, I had confidence in his expertise and would definitely go there again.
Description of Work: My wall clock had stopped working though I had replaced the battery. Also, the hour hand was loose. Paul checked the battery and it was low so he replaced that and he tightened the hands and reset the time.

Description of Work: I had what I thought was a major issue with a relative's clock. The owner said it was a minor thing and fixed it on the spot - with no charge. This man was lovely - even gave me a tour of his shop.

This is a old clock, over a hundred years old. He arrived on time and did a good job. He was professional, and did a nice job of moving the clock, no damage. He also leveled up the clock and it keeps perfect time.

Description of Work: They rehabbed an old wall clock that we have had for over 35 years. They did an excellent job and at a very reasonable price. The owner really appreciates the art of clockwork and it shows in his quality of work. I would recommend the Clockworks anytime. And the shop is a treasure to visit. Something out of the past when craftsmen were still around.

The story is told in the space above. I have written this for my husband because he was the one involved in this evaluation.
Description of Work: On 12 /12/12 I purchased a chiming shelf clock from Paul at The Clock Works. This was a display clock because there was no other one in stock. It kept perfect time, but after a couple of days I noticed that sometimes after chiming and striking the hour it repeated the whole cycle by chiming and striking at 8 minutes after the hour, chiming the quarter hour at 23 minutes after the hour, chiming the half hour at 38 minutes after the hour, and the three quarters hour at 53 minutes after the hour.It always self-corrected at the beginning of the next hour. This malfunction occured erratically - sometimes not for a day or two, sometimes several times a day, and sometimes back to back. Because the clock malfunctioned erratically and always self-corrected on the hour, it was not possible to demonstrate this malfunction. You had to be there when it happened. I reported this to Paul. He said that he had never had this problem with this make of clock (Seiko) and he suggested that I monitor the clock for a while. I did this but it became very exasperating because I never knew when it would happen, and if it happened when I wasn't listening I would never know it. I finally took the clock back to Paul. After looking it over he decided to take my word for it and he ordered a replacement. My replacement arrived on 2/15/13 and it has worked perfectly so far. I am very pleased that Paul and The Clock Works stood behind rheir product and made the exchange without any disputes.

It was a little thing, but when I brought the clock in, he laid out this nice red absorbent thing to put on the table to put the clock on. They were delicate with it and very understanding. The price was very reasonable.

We have a number of ticking, winding, ancient clocks. We have been married for almost four years, and for different occasions throughout our marriage, we have given each other clocks. Grandmother clocks, grandfather clocks, ship's clocks and wall clocks. One of the clocks broke down, and we took it to two different people who could not repair the clock and even damaged it further. Then we took it to The Clock Works. They are as good for clocks as Penna is for windows. They have old European clock makers and clock repairers. They can fix anything, no matter what it is, and how many weeks it takes them to get it perfect. A clock which was not working was brought to them for repair. It had been taken to several places, and it still didn't work. It turned out that it was Thomas Jefferson's clock which had hung in his house, and in the library of the University of Virginia. It had stopped working, and nobody could fix it. They had taken the clock all over the country to different places, to try and get it working, because it was Thomas Jefferson's clock which he himself had signed. It had been a hundred years taking it to different places and trying to get it fixed, and The Clock Works fixed it. They are very good. The clock that we took to them was a complicated clock to repair too, but it now works just like it was right off the showroom floor. It is a hundred years old, triple chime clock, and it's a beautiful thing. They are wonderful, compared to the two other local clock people we had been to. Going into their store is like going into a different world, it is full of various levels of ancient ticking clocks, chiming clocks, cuckoo clocks, and grandfather clocks. I feel it's like going into a magical place. The people who work there love what they do. They breathe precision, they breathe fine instruments, and they are a dying breed. It's like I'm going into a little German clock shop from 1785 or something. They really care about the quality of their clocks, and the clocks just mean a lot to them. They know that there aren't many people who do what they do anymore. I wish them loads and loads of business, they are getting older, and they won't be there forever. But while they are there, I wish everybody would use them.
Description of Work: We use The Clock Works for our clock repairs. We regularly use them. We have a lot of clocks, and we take them there one after another.

The clock looked the best it had in 30 years, and the new mechanism works far better and quieter than the old one ever did.
Description of Work: I had an old banjo-style clock that had an old electric mechanism which needed replacing. The Clock Works examined the case and the mechanism, called me with an estimate and put in a new mechanism cleaned up the case and glass.
