Sheldrick Construction

Sheldrick was great during the quote process, they were at my house several times drafting, taking notes etc.  when it came time to sign the contract they wanted a $4200 deposit for "materials" on what was, I believe, about a $12,000 job (I was buying all the fixtures and materials for the bathroom separately, so it was really just sheetrock and electrical wire).  They showed up for a total of 3 days over a month long period, just long enough to replace a few inside doors, completely destroy my bathroom and den, and frame out a closet.  They also incorrectly built a header for the new hallway that I ended up having to redo with the contractor that actually finished the job, which cost me more money.  They left my house completely destroyed, with no walls in my bathroom and insulation from 60 years ago literally falling down on my dogs heads.  anyone interested in pictures of what they left, feel free to contact me I am happy to share them.  Since this was our first major construction job, I gave Sheldrick the benefit of the doubt until he insisted that they did not need permits from my town to do the work they were doing.  That didn't sound right to me since they were doing plumbing and electrical work, so I contacted the town myself, and of course they needed permits.  I scheduled a meeting with the town building inspector for them to discuss the project and what would be needed for us to get approval from the town, and he skipped the meeting, not once, but twice.  At that point I had no choice but to fire him, and expected some money back.  Of course, I never heard from them again, and he refused to pick up the certified letters I sent. He also has his wife as owner or co-owner or something to try to protect him from litigation, which I can only assume if he does such criminally horrible work, he must run into quite frequently.  I myself was preparing the paperwork to sue in small claims court, when we found out my father in law had cancer and our priorities were focused on more important things than money.  I truly hope he enjoyed that $4200, and can sleep at night for what he did.

There was plenty of things we did not like. There are spots where he did not complete painting. One of the floor that he laid down, he did not remove the flooring underneath so our back door does not open now. The floor sticks, you lift the door up to open it. When I showed him that, he started drilling screws into the top framing of the door to try to pull the door in at the top to get the bottom which did not work. He set the time and a day and what was going to be was for the floor to be put in and the painting. So, with a family of seven people we had to empty our living room out all the furniture and everything and put it in the next room, then when he completed one room we would shift. He called me and said that he was not going to make it the day that he said and that was fine. But then he called me and said "we will be there in the morning". So, we moved everything out of our living room again and he called and said "I had a flat tire". Then the next day it was another excuse. So, we are basically living with all our furniture at one room.

Work was very slow to get started & ran into many delays.  We got the impression he had too many jobs going at once.  The work he performed was outstanding, though.

The service was very good. I would definitely go back if i had a problem.

*****UPDATE******Tried to use him again. We had a bunch of projects we needed someone for (small to medium- nothing unpleasant), so called him first. We met and he said he definitely wanted the work and would provide us with an estimate by the next day. Never heard from him again. I called for over a month (after a week or so I was really just calling to be sure he was ok, and if so, to see what his excuse was) but only got voice mail and he never returned my calls. Eventually his wife answered and said she'd have him call. No luck there, either. Waste of time.

They are really good, and their prices are reasonable. They cleaned up after themselves. They were working on my front porch and could have done ruins to the shrubbery, but they did not. They were really good. I can’t say anything bad about them. The workmanship was good. I know it was a messy job and they did a really good job. They were here when they said they did be here. One day they were late and they called to inform me about it.

We have used them before, which worked out well for us. They did a good job this time too. They came quickly to give the quote and came out to do the work quickly. They finished the job within a day.

Called business (home) phone Jan. 3rd. Owner showed up quickly & gave an estimate for work. Showed up Tues. & worked 8 hrs. Wed. said " A tree fell on a home in Schuylerville so we have to fix the roof. We will re-turn at noon." An employee fell off the roof & the tree fell on their truck. Steve Sheldrick returned 7 & 8 Jan. to finish the work.

They were good and my overall experience with them was very good as well. I bought the patio roof myself. In fact, I did use their services again.

Steve did an excellent job. We purchased a 2 family home that was not well kept. It had been built in the 1930's. Most of the windows were broken and cracked. The doors had been painted over so many times they didn't close properly and the Exterior doors were not secure. He took away the old and damaged windows and doors for us. He was very professional and reliable. The work was done in a timely fashion. The home was left neat and clean. My husband and I were both involved in hiring contractors for this house and I was initially a little intimidated about working with contractors but that was not an issue working with Steve. He explained what options were available for us to use for framing the doors and which ones looked and worked the best. I highly recommend him.

I called for estimate and was returned all my calls promptly. I was kept apprised of the work being done. Always very punctual. Clean up done daily. Work finished as promised. Mr Sheldrick is very personable. The work is perfect. I love my porch. I have rehired Sheldrick Construction and he's now doing my siding. Very reasonable price.

We hired a handyman for various jobs in our kitchen. After shoddily doing about half the contracted job he just "disappeared". He stopped showing up when promised and avoided our phone calls...DO NOT HIRE DENNIS O'KANE. Anyways, we needed to get our new kitchen window in fast since the weather was getting colder and we were wasting heat through the old window. I looked on Angie's List and found Steve to be in my neighborhood and had a glowing review. He was friendly, prompt, and professional and had the window finished within a couple days of my initial phone call. I will happily call Sheldrick again should the need arise.

We searched for someone to put in windows for us, and had 2 installed and saved up to have more. The first guy (can not even remember the company name) never came back to put the metal around the outside for 6 months the weather beat on it. Then Sheldrick Construction was recommended through a friend of ours and we called for a price to have a couple more windows put in. He not only gave us a great price on the windows but he pulled out the windows the other guy put in and replaced the wood for us and then put the metal around the outside that should have been there the whole time. He could have charged us quite a bit for that but did not. He is fair, decent and awesome worker. I have used them for odd jobs ever since. They are awesome!!!
