They wrote a courteous acknowledgement and said they were structuring their service to include notification of wait times up front.
This time, they told me right away how long it would take, picked it up quickly (it wasearly April, a bit before the high season), then called me to explain that my mower was old and that the cost of repair would begin to approximate the cost of a new lawnmower. I appreciated their honesty and responsiveness, but told them to go ahead.
My lawnmower was picked up promptly, repaired, cleaned, tuned (etc.) within a few days and I had it back when promised. I used it for the first time of the season last week, and it seems to run fine. Still a bit sluggish, but it is nine years old so I don't expect a youthful response.
They were professional, courteous, timely, and reasonably priced. I will definitely use this service again.
"An estimate of 6 weeks to “get the work done” is extremely disproportionate, I agree. We simply do-not do this. I cannot make sense of the situation explained because things just do not add up. Upon reviewing our files, all [3] of the equipment that this customer has purchased from us is at least 10 years old and up to 17 years old. Depending on what went bad on the machine is what determines the amount of time and parts that are needed. On a mower that is almost 18 years old (Toro model 70041, purchased summer of 1998) the necessary repairs MAY have been extensive depending on the condition. I can guarantee that the customer was notified of the situation. We always provide support to our customers who purchased their machines here as well as customers who purchased them at another establishment; we cannot promise that someday the repairs won’t total the machine’s value (nor can anyone else). All equipment has a limited lifetime, which does not exclude lawn-equipment. After more than 20 successful years in a family-owned business, we haven’t grown by taking 6 weeks to “get the work done” or gouging customers."
I have no objection to service providers being busy, and it sounds as though they are, but I would have appreciated hearing from them right at the first phone call that I was looking at close to three weeks for my lawnmower to be returned to me. This way I wasted a whole week, with my lawn needing cutting. I did find someone else on Angie's List who was able to pick up my mower on the same evening of the day I called, Monday, and return it by the weekend (four days instead of three weeks). I will post a review of that business afterwards.
"Thank you for your feedback. I am happy to report that we have taken steps to improve the specific complaints that you had. We have added a dedicated delivery driver to our team since this review to improve the wait before the pickup. Even so, we are a small operation and physically can only repair so many machines at one time. Unlike the big-box-stores, we do more than just sell the equipment. We also provide the service and parts that your machine will require during its lifetime. As a note, we service all types of equipment year-round and allow for our customers to bring them in before they need to use them. To help clarify the confusion about wait-time, we notify the customers about the wait time when it is expected to be over a week. We are also developing a way to use our website to post updates. We are still a small family-owned business and have to learn as we grow. We will keep your suggestions in mind as we go forward."
