On this date, I ended up waiting over 45 minutes past the time of my appt. I was there to see Dr. Lucas with my bird. From what I could see, she seemed in a hurry with my visit. I took my bird there for an exam because of feathers issues and she never even mentioned anything about that, instead proceeded to do a beak trim that I never asked to be done, nor did she ask me if I wanted it done. The way she carried my bird was careless looking, like a rag doll! and she never has an assistant, just wraps the bird up and does whatever, she ended up hitting the bottom beak with the dremel tool to trim it and made it bleed, then told me there was something wrong with her beak........really??? Never admitting to doing anything herself, but I'm sorry, things bleed when the injury happens and there was nothing wrong with her beak before this! I went in with a feather issue, and left a beak AND feather issue! I would have been better off not going!! I will never go back to this vet with my birds again! I always had a gut feeling about this vet......something about her that I didn't like. I've been there in the past two other times that turned out ok, but I'm going to another vet from now on. I was given two recommendations for Dr. Lucas, and it seems as if some people like her and she's supposed to be the best, but I'm sorry, I was just shocked by my last visit there, paid for a visit only to leave with another problem with my bird that I had to pay for meds for and then she wanted me to bring her back for the damage done to the beak.......Nope! sorry!

We have been going to Upstate Animal for around 10 years and Dr. Lucas is the best vet around and her staff is supreme. I would NEVER go to anyone else. The care and compassion that she has shown to my pets and my husband and I cannot be duplicated.

Dr. Lucas saved my bunny's life several times over the years. He lived to almost 11 years old even with various health problems. She cured his hind leg weakness, his head tilt, his fur mites, his hock sores, his molar spurs on his teeth, , his urinary tract infection and bladder sludge, and several bouts of GI stasis. Dr. Lucas is a well known rabbit expert and I am very thankful to have found her! When my bunny was hospitalized there, she would come in late at night to check on him. When I had to go away while he was recovering from an illness, she boarded him for the week and gave him his meds as needed. When it was time to put down my beloved bunny because nothing more could be done for him and he was in pain, she was very professional and compassionate and handled the procedure expertly using current rabbit protocols on euthanasia. She even kissed my Bilbo goodbye. I've researched several rabbit vet in the area, and have used a few which were pretty knowledgable about rabbits, but not as much so as Dr. Lucas. Whenever I go to the office, I look around to see what pets are being brought in and I've seen chickens, sugar gliders, snakes, birds, rabbits, hamsters, rats, you name it, even wildlife.

Upstate Animal Medical Center were more than nothing but compassionate, kind, and understanding. The staff were very good. The doctor was excellent and specialized in birds. The price was reasonable. I have two more parakeets and they will be going to Upstate Animal Medical Center in a couple weeks for their first visit.
