OPH CONSTRUCTION

We should have known the job would go badly by the way they put the supports in the lower walls of the garage (the first project), as we had to ask them to do them over--the supports were crooked and not staggered. While the framing of the house addition was done quickly and seemingly well, every other aspect was done poorly. GC Richard Flood and his mason completely ignored the architect's plans (an architect he has built 10 homes with), they built the fireplace flush with the wall where the were supposed to build into the room to create a traditional window seat on either side of the fireplace; they also put the entire second floor on with a 24" space between the old roofing, instead of an 18" space (as per architect's plans), thereby having to create a hodge-podge staircase to fit into the new space which was both ugly and dangerous. Electrical work was sloppy and dangerous, sheet rock and painting was also sloppy. An engineer later found one of the new support beams in the basement to be held in with ONE NAIL. Plumbing was routed OUTSIDE the house and back in, so pipes could burst in the cold. Cheap, cracked trim was used around many of the windows. Mr. Flood was, by the end of the job, nasty and inappropriate in his sexist/sexual remarks. He refused to come and fix or redo anything that was dangerous or already falling apart, handed us an extra bill for electrical work that we did not sign off on, then placed a lien on our house to try and get that bill paid. All this after we paid every one of his bills on time. Within 5 years of the original work done by OPH, we have had to completely tear out and redo our stairwell and staircase, replace interior trim, re-spackle and paint the interior, and tear out the entire front of the house because it had rotted down to the beams (this is how we found out the plumbing had been routed outside the house). We filed suit against OPH, but the court system is dysfunctional and slow and after 2 years, we had spent more money than we could afford just waiting for a court decision. We decided to put the rest of our money toward fixing our home and making it safer. I would never recommend Mr. Flood, OPH, or any of his subcontractors to anyone.
