When Andy arrived to connect the generator, he was careful and clear in giving me operational instructions, and was patient enough to let me write them down so I wouldn't forget the order of the process.
While he was working in the basement's new electrical transfer box, I started to smell something burning but could find nothing,. I asked if he was soldering something and he said no. The house security system alarm went off and the station called. That was reasonable, as the power had to be shut off to work. The next alarm that went off was"Fire in the house-leave immediately," and the security system called again, with the same message.. Shortly thereafter, I started to check out the appliances in the kitchen, to find the source of the smell, and noticed that the microwave was not working. Somehow, it got "fried" while the electrician was working. All of my phones started to beep and flash. They were destroyed too. The alarm kept saying there was a fire, the phones kept blinking and beeping. I was unable to shut off the security system , as it was recognizing the real fire we couldn't see, aka the microwave. Andy had to cut into my custom wall unit to get the microwave out, so we could check if it was in the wall or the microwave itself. It was the microwave.
I was without a microwave for two weeks because one had to be ordered that would fit into my custom kitchen cabinet, built for it. Andy called his insurance and the bills for the microwave, the phones, and the resetting of the security system were sent directly to him and his insurance company. He was cooperative, but the insurance wants me to sign off on a document that says I will never hold them liable if something else has been destroyed that we haven't recognized yet. I am not willing to do that, as I do not understand electrical wiring or what else might have been damaged.
After the generator was installed and connected, it started, but the winter is over, so it wasn't usable all winter long.
Andy was cooperative about the repairs but it was a harrowing experience. The insurance wants me to sign off in three weeks, but I am uncomfortable with that. If nothing else happens, I won't contact them,, but if something happens, due to this experience, I want the option of recourse.

Andy returned my inquiry call promptly and made an appointment for an estimate. He arrived on time and was professional and courteous. We made an appointment to have the work done and it was taken care of in a timely manner and the premises were left in an orderly and clean condition. Andy set up an appointment with the appropriate town inspector and mailed me both my bill and the Underwriters Certificate.

I KNOW THAT WHEN THE WORKERS COME TO DO ANY WORK IN MY HOUSE, THE WORK IS GOING TO BE TOP NOTCH AND NEVER OVER CHARGED. THEY ARE CAREFUL ABOUT PERSONAL BELONGINGS, AND NEVER LEAVE ANY KIND OF A MESS.
