We initially hired this company to clean our summer rental home and were given an estimate by phone as to how many hours it would take. We were shocked to receive our bill and discover that the estimated time was much longer than discussed by phone despite the fact that we had, following our initial phone call with AVS, reduced the number of rooms needed to be cleaned. We were also disappointed that certain standard procedures (i.e., having the outside grill cleaned) were included in the cost without having been explained as standard (or requested from me) during the initial phone call. This is not my main complaint, however. When I called the company to request further information about what took extra time and to express concern about the drastic difference in estimated versus actual time taken, I found that the company was unwilling to make any adjustments. Instead they became quickly defensive and sarcastic on the phone.
And most importantly, when I explained that my experience with them was so poor as to lead me to write a negative review of their service, I received an email from their attorney outlining the narrow qualifications that permitted such reviews. It makes me wonder whether other potential negative reviews aren't posted here due to similar letters that insinuate legal action.
I gave a B for quality because the house, after all, was cleaned thoroughly. On that end I can understand the positive reviews others have listed. F for price because two weeks later we had a different service clean the house equally as thoroughly in half the time and half the price. F for responsiveness and professionalism probably don't need further explanation if you've read the above. Punctuality gets N/A as we were not at home when the women arrived on the date of the cleaning.
"Member, please allow us to respond to your comments. First of all, the “only” reason you received a letter from our attorney is because you verbally threatened us stating that you were going to post comments all over the internet claiming that we are a dishonest company. We are a reputable business since 1994 and we take offense to that unfounded and very untrue statement. Going back to the original phone conversation when you inquired about hiring us for cleaning service--you stated that you were a renter, that you had been at the house for a month and that it had not yet been cleaned. The estimate given to you over the phone was sight unseen. You were clearly explained that we could not give you an accurate estimate, only a ballpark range, as that the time it would take to clean depends on the overall condition, size, laundry, etc. You were told out rate and you agreed to proceed. Also, the quote you were given did not factor the laundry since you told us there will be none. However, at the last moment you added laundry to the service. It took 2 hours more than the estimated ballpark you were quoted, which is not unreasonable. You were charged for the time it took to do the job, nothing over. We cleaned the grill because it is typically part of our cleaning service. When you firmly objected, we refunded you the time it took to clean it. We will end this by telling you that, in the same manner that we treat all of our clients, we did our very best to accommodate you on short notice and gave you reliable and quality service."
