We thought it would be a challenge to repair and maintain a weekend house from a distance, and working with Ken started out well with him on top of our repairs and in constant communication with us. While Ken did many jobs well, there were other jobs that we left unfinished, or were not done up to the same standard. He did communicate well at the beginning of our working relationship together, but after the last round of work, did not tell us that our lighting was installed improperly, that our custom closet door did not close as it should, and most importantly, that he failed to protect our newly refinished floors and trim work. They were damaged with dents, paint spills, and drywall. When we spoke with him about our concern about his work, and Ken was willing to come back and repair the damage and work that we were unhappy with. We chose not to have him come back due to time already lost on the job.
Ken is a friendly and personable man, and we do hope that we can reconcile this matter and perhaps work with him on smaller jobs in the future.

We needed a roof replaced on a relatively simple structure that is a summer home. We have had it for 25 years and have never had it re-shingled.There were complications in that the current roof had 3 layers of shingles ( not a good situation and a significant issue to strip).
Another issue we encountered was that another contractor had built a porch on the front of the house that included a shed roof that overlapped the roof of the original house. He had done a very poor job in that he laid the roof of the porch directly on top of the shingles of the existing structure. This was a significant shortcut that over time caused the porch roof to leak. There were also flashing issues that caused the porch roof to leak in different areas.
Ken is a very knowledgeable guy who was able to identify all of the structural issues that were causing us problems and fixed them at no additional costs. He went the extra mile and lifted the rafters of the roof and removed the shingles beneath them to fix the leaking issue. He also identified a problem that the porch rafters where not sitting on the rafters of the original structure and did his best to reinforce them so that a significant snowfall will not create problems for us down the road.
He removed the soffit on the porch that was damaged by the flashing issue and replaced the plywood. In the end he even painted the entire soffiit - again at no additional charge.
We were not there there to watch the progress since the house was shut down for the summer. We met with Ken periodically during the project and we were happy that the job was completed in a timely and efficient manner.
His original estimate assumed that the wood beneath the shingles needed to be replaced. When he removed the shingles and noticed that the roof was in tact he was quick to notify me that the additional work was not required. This led to a significant cost savings.
One event in this process worth noting is that we had asked for an estimate to do the roof on an additional structure and decided that we could wait to have this work done. At one point Ken called me and told me that his workers had misunderstood and began stripping the shingles from this structure by accident. He quickly offered to fix the issue by replacing the roof with a comparable shingle at no additional cost to us. I do not view this incident as an issue as he offered a solution that would have left us whole.
Ken was a pleasure to work with and I would be happy to recommend him to anyone in the area that is looking for a contractor. I had contacted two contractors for the job before choosing Ken. One had provided an estimate well above the price that Ken had provided. I get the sense that he would not have addressed all of the issues that Ken had and he had no where near the enthusiasm that Ken brought to this project. The second contractor provided an estimate that was comparable but his estimate was not provided in a timely fashion. Again I do not feel as though they would be as enthusiastic as Ken Walsh and Sons.
I would recommend this contractor and I will not hesitate to use him again when the need arises.

Started the roof in December of 2011. It was done for the most part in about 6 weeks. There were complications because the sheathing underneath the roof tiles were rotting. The job became a little more expensive but it was worth it as I now feel secure that I have a sturdy, 30 year roof. And it looks nice too! The issue with this job is that the contractor was very late in getting my gutter system put back together. My fear was that this situation would impact my foundation because the water draining from the roof wasn't being directed away from the house, but down to the foundation. It took him another couple of months to get all the pieces back onto the roof.
We also noted an extreme temperature difference in the house and discovered that the floors were not insulated. Ken and his crew did a very good job of installing the installation and what a difference it made!
The dining room redo came out beautiful. My issue here was how the job dragged out over two months! And one other slip up was the lighting installation. He cut the electrical cords attached to the pendant lights above the dining table prematurely and as a result, the pendants are about 4 inches too high. I would have preferred he checked with me first instead of making the decision to cut and install. Oh well. I can live with it.

Working with Mr. Walsh has been excellent. While previously working on my roof, Mr. Walsh noticed some vulnerable sections of the roof where these nail heads were lifting the shingles. He came back and made the repairs for little more than the cost of materials and the ride out to my house.
Mr. Walsh was very eager to keep me informed throughout the inspections and repairs, and was more than willing to work within my budget. Working with him was both hassle free and pleasant. I look forward to using his services again in the future.

I found Mr. Walsh to be very unprofessional in not returning a call after giving him a list of work that needed to be done, starting with my bathroom, and I have called him several times and has not responded to my phone calls.
Response from K Walsh & Sons
"I am sorry that I could not get back to the member in a timely manner. I did call her and left a message on her home phone, her cell phone and even stopped by her house to apologies face to face. Beyond that I don't know what I could have done. There are times, and situations that are beyond my control. I deal with projects that are weather related and time sensitive. I value and respect how my clients feel and give them as much time as they need when I meet with them to discuss what they want to get done. I spent hours with the member talking about her home and things that we could do to make it better. I care about how people are treated and pride myself on personal service and when I don't meet their expectations it matters to me and I make every effort to make things better."

This was the largest remolding job I have had done on my home since I purchased it in 1982. It was an important job and complicated by the fact that, I would be out of town for several months during the time the work was going to be completed. Ken Walsh made it easy for me and arranged the purchase of all materials and provided me weekly updates on the progress of the work. Several changes were required throughout the job and they were explained to me in detail via email and phone and the in the end the job turned out beyond what I could have expected.
Response from K Walsh & Sons
"thanks for the kind words. Your kitchen is one of my favorites, I love the way it came out. I will post some pictures to show the lighting, which I think takes the kitchen from relay good to magazine quality. This job presented some interesting challenges with you being out of town but in the end good communication made everything go according to plan."

Had many guests coming for Memorial Weekend and suddenly had major plumbing problems, eliminating one of our two bathrooms. Our plumber was away on vacation and we had no where to turn. This is a summer home for us. We asked several of our neighbors but got delayed referrals from them. Thought of Angie's List, joined and successfully found a contractor in my small town! The number on Angie's list though was his home number and he gave us his business one which he said he has been askng Angie's List to change. His correct business number is 845 853 4110.

Ken has been a pleasure to work with. The technical aspects of the work are first class, and he takes pride in delivering excellent results. He's friendly, listens and was happy to work with our ideas. He is reliable and punctual, and we'll be continuing to use him in our overall renovation.

Job went very well. Ken goes the extra mile to be sure that he covers all aspects of the job. For instance, he installed a sturdy interior to the wall he was hanging the HDTV on so it would be able to handle the additional weight. He is fair in his pricing as well and does not do anything without conferring with you first. I would highly recommend Ken to do work for anyone who needs work done on their home.
