Complaint for Roy If there?s a gas leak in your home, how seriously should you take it? When we first contacted Roy, we set up an appointment for an inspection. On Wednesday Roy was able to see the many tiny leaks that were on our gas lines and was surprised that we had waited as long as we had to fix them. Roy?s sense of urgency and concern for our safety was exactly what Beth was looking for. With Adam?s recommendation, Roy compelled us to have him do the work in our home at the earliest possible date which turned out to be the next morning, Thursday. Our trust was absolute, so we even provided Roy with a key so that he could do the work without us home. After I had come home from work, I noticed the smell of gas. When Roy came by to pick up the check that evening and show the work that he had done, I mentioned the smell to him. I wondered that if by bleeding the pipes earlier that day in order to complete the job, could that account for the smell. Roy said that this is probably the cause. He added that because all the windows in the upper floors had remained closed throughout the day, there may be defuse pockets of gas here and there, but it was nothing of concern. That night, I slept in my bed while gas filled my home. I woke up to the smell of gas, but I unwisely gave Roy the benefit of the doubt and went to work that morning. However, I was beginning to have my suspicions, so opened all the windows in the basement, left the windows open in my bedroom and left the vent fan on in the bathroom upstairs in order to help ventilate the house. It was a good thing I did. When I came home from work that evening, the smell of gas hit me in the face the moment I opened the front door. I opened all the windows in the house and got some soapy water in a spray bottle. I went downstairs and began spraying all the joints. Once I found the first leak, I called Roy and let him know that we had at least one leak. Roy said that he could stop by the next morning to check it out. I was surprised that someone who took gas leaks so seriously two days before would be willing to risk my life to not inspect his pipe work that night. When I asked if I should turn off the gas to my home until he was able to come the next morning, Roy?s response was, ??well, it?s not that bad of a leak, is it?? I was taken aback. I didn?t know how to respond. I think I may have answered, ??well, I guess not.? I called my wife and she insisted on me calling RG&E?s hotline. When the technician arrived, he seemed surprised that a sub-contractor would let a leak go until the next morning and then not insist that I turn off the main gas line, especially after I had suggested it as a safety precaution. Upon closer inspection, the technician found not one, but three leaks at different locations along the line that Roy had worked on the previous day. How major were these leaks? Well that?s just the thing. Roy missed his opportunity to do his own inspection. In my opinion, and based on how the detector sounded, those leaks were massive! The whole house still smelled of gas, even with all the windows open. After the RG&E technician turned off the main gas line, the house immediately started to smell better. The next morning turned into the afternoon. When Adam Wood called at approximately 10:00 am on Saturday, Roy informed me that he was at another gas emergency and wouldn?t be able to stop by right away. How is it that another gas emergency took precedence over the gas emergency that Roy caused in my home and was responsible for? Also, at that time, Roy still didn?t know how bad the leak was OR that RG&E had turned off the gas. For all he knew, the leak could have been massive (which it was) and the house had been filling with gas for two days at this point. Roy could argue that the gas leak was most likely non-explosive, but that would be a guess. Roy missed his opportunity to make that kind of judgment when he didn?t come that Friday night to check his work especially after I had discovered one leak and informed him of it at 5pm. Regardless, is a leaky gas line really something one should guess at over the phone? Then, to imply that I didn?t need to turn off the gas as a safety measure, even after I had explicitly suggested it, is unprofessional, dangerous, and inexcusable. Time went on and we tried to call him over 10 times on different days. He never answers his phone and his voice mailbox is full. Terrible. so very terrible.
Description of Work: we called Roy to repair our gas leak, he made it worse. then didn't answer any calls, and funny, his voice mail box has been full. amazing how quickly he returned my call to book the job, and how quickly he cashed our check. the full story is below. DO NOT use him. well, unless you want to fill your house with gas. he's good at that.
