The contractor who worked on our project, Glenn, was very knowledgeable and explained every step of the demo and installation as the work progressed. He was able to catch a couple of oversights in the original layout that we changed to make our kitchen function more efficiently.
The project was scheduled to be started in the beginning of March, but to our surprise they were able to begin a few weeks early. The total timeline for the remodel was about 4 weeks from the day they started demo to the day it was completed. Phil managed the timeline of the contractor with the delivery of the materials so that there was very little "wasted" time during the project.
We did have one incident of miscommunication in which our old flooring was removed though we were told it would not be. We had planned to have the new floor installed over the existing floor but the old one was removed which caused there to be additional labor costs. When we expressed our concerns over the extra cost, Phil's supervisor spoke with us and negotiated a compromise that we both felt was fair.
Overall, my husband and I are very pleased with the service that we received and we absolutely love our new kitchen. It has completely transformed the feel of our house.
"In reference to report made by [member name removed], Quality Homes of Rochester is responding to several of the statements made. 1. Quality Homes showed up much earlier than expected. This project became a job on January 5th, 2012 for a spring install. We had a wet spring with cool weather in the spring of 2012. We started the job in June of 2012. There were no deposits made at the time of the sale. 2. Quality Homes of Rochester did not take precautions to protect shrubbery. We take every precaution to protect shrubbery, surrounding landscaping and the house itself. With over 11,000 pounds of shingles being removed from the home, it can cause some damage to the yard area. We did power wash the home after completing the job. 3. Job took two weeks to finish Materials were delivered on June 5th, 2012 to the job site and our crew started on June 6th, 2012. We installed the gutters on the front of the home on June 13th, 2012 which was after the roof was installed. We had a total of seven working days on the roof. For a 24 square, two layer tear off roof, installing vents and a power vent, seven day install is not out of reason."
What a turn-around from the other guy! Ken McLure was very personal, honest, and professional. His crews were courteous, efficient, and highly skilled in their trades. Although each phase of the project,- siding, windows, porch construction, even the roofing, which was supposedly already complete, - had its blunders left by the first guy to be corrected , Ken and his team demonstrated the expertise, superb project management, accountability, and coordination to complete the job correctly and without further issue. It was fun to watch, learn from, and even work with them in choosing materials and styles, and designing some of the details to transform our mid-19th century home into what we had dreamed. People are complimenting this house all around town and we are proud to say it was Quality Homes of Rochester who brought it all together. It's just a shame that all home improvement contractors can't conduct business like this.
They told us it would be done by Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then December 13, 2012. They "finished" according to them 12/18/2012. They are NOT done according to us.
They did not do half of the electrical as requested.
They had one person work at a time on a kitchen that in there words is "twice the size of a normal kitchen".
A lot of wasted time, sometimes would not show until 1 pm then leave at 4pm.
Counter tops installed in 2 hours by subcontractors, no other work done by QH that day.
Damage to hardwood floors in other rooms.
No drop cloths, very minor clean up. Found brand new drawers filled with trash.
We were told different things would be installed by different people only to have those people tell us that was not their job.
Two of their workers were fabulous and did great work, however, we had four different workers throughout the job.
Their flooring subcontractor was dragging plywood across brand new hardwood floors and then stomped cardboard boxes on the same floor until my eight year old son said "I don't think you should do that and you need to pull up your pants too." When this was told to QH they started trying to "guess" what crew it was.
They gave us no time between the new ceiling being installed and the cabinets being installed to paint saying they needed to "keep us on time" then went over their time by more than a week.
There were things that were not done correctly and we have been waiting two weeks for them to come back and fix them and have called at least 4 times in the two weeks and keep getting told that they have to talk about it and send someone out to fix the issues. When I said "I'm not happy" I am told "Neither are we." Well then, fix the issues and we can all be happy and you can get the final payment.
A lot of their finish work is already starting to fall apart. Thresholds in doorways are coming off because they were nailed when they were supposed to be glued, etc. They needed to patch a spot in the hardwood floors from where they moved the door and used the wrong flooring! We left them a brand new piece of cherry flooring to fix it and they walked right past the cherry flooring and grabbed a piece of walnut flooring that was from another room and never asked about the difference.
They played a lot of games and gave a lot of excuses. I will never hire them again.
"The work was started on April 4, 2011 and on April 21, 2011 Ms. B signed a completion certificate stating that she was satisfied with all the work. On approximately September 28, 2012 Quality Homes of Rochester was contacted by Ms. B about trim and chimney issues, We went over and made repairs per her request and also replaced 60 feet of gutters free of charge. We understand that things happen and when they do we make every attempt to satisfy the homeowner. Even thought the repair was over a year later, we still took care of it free of charge. We have a one year workmanship warrantee with each contract. Since we repaired her trim and chimney there have been no other issues brought up by the homeowner."
Years later someone came to fix the vent they put in the bathroom and the repairman informed us that the Quality Homes contractor had the exhaust routed into the attic, NOT to the outside! So basically tons of moisture was being pumped into our attic each time someone ran the vent!
They took two walls out of a bedroom...you can see with the naked eye where the windows used to be! The screws started to protrude from the wall. This only happens if you cut corners and don't use the proper drywall screws.
My mother lost a ton of money on this remodelling project, and we lived with its effects for years. Quality Homes is lucky my mother had so many life hardships occur at the same time to the point where she was unable, physically, and mentally, to pursue them and hold them accountable for their shoddy workmanship.
