Merk-N-Tile

Mr. Merklinger came highly recommended from two different sources so I was confident he would be able to do the work. He arrived when he said he would, and got the job done. Unfortunatley, after he was paid and we examined the fireplace more carefully we were aware that the project looked very unprofessional and needed to be re-done. I had several other tile contractors come look and this is what I learned: The proper adhesive was not used for glass tile. There were visible streak marks behind all of them. The tile was either not inspected, or broken when installed. Many of the set tiles are chipped or broken. The entire top of the fireplace is not level. The tile goes in a big wave. I was told that while they were probably straight when they were set, but since he did not place shims there overnight they sagged. Then it was grouted. Some of the grout lines are about 4 times larger than others. I realize that some jobs may not go as planned. However, refusing to even discuss how to fix the problems is very unprofessional. I called Mark a few days after the job was completed. I asked him to stop by so we could talk about it. He said he would contact me and set up a time. I never heard back from him. I e-mailed, sent a certified letter, and had the BBB contact him on my behalf. He has ignored all communication. I am out over $1,000 for the cost of the labor and the glass tile. I had to have the entire project removed and re-done.
