MANEL PAVING

Manel was very responsive, which is actually not very common I found. They provided two prices for the options I was considering and was flexible on the installation date. Arrived when they said they would. Quick and professional - the whole thing was done within a 1/2 day.

I got four estimates on the job. Manel was not the lowest initially. However they updated their quote and dropped the price by about $1000 because they said that they had gotten a better price on the material due to a large job they had just won. When evaluating the driveway they noted that the probably reason for the bad deterioration was the fact that water wasn't draining away from that section of the driveway and the water was ruining the base of the driveway. They stated that they would build up the base to ensure water flowed away onto the grass. We drove on the new crushed stone for a couple of weeks to pack it. I called Manel to inform them that it had packed down quite a bit in certain areas and they might want to come back and add some stone. I was told that they would bring extra stone when they came to pave. Of course it wouldn't have the benefit of being packed but I didn't fight the issue. The team showed up on time to pave and ran out of stone. The foreman said he would just add more asphalt where he needed to. That worked well where he had to put in the asphalt by hand near the garage but it didn't build it up as much as i was expecting in the area that needed the drainage. The foreman told me that he had add some crushed stone on the shoulder in that area so that the water could drain away. Unfortunately due to the clay nature of our soil the water is not, a year later, draining away. More pitch on the driveway and a higher height would have helped the water run further onto the lawn. Unfortunately only time will tell whether the extra stone will pay off. The team was exellent, worked very well together, clearly knew what they were doing. Did a clean job. The biggest problem was the lack of communication between the supervisor who visited the site to do the estimate and talk about what they would do and the team that came out to do the work. In addition the supervisor should have listened to the customer who told him that more stone was required.

The one complaint that we have is Manel Pavings customer service is not very good. Their work is good, just not good in returning calls to fix things. I would use them again for the quality.
