The original price was OK.
Mr Duke's people dug up the old driveway and then the company disappeared for 2 weeks while he went on vacation.
When he returned, the pavement was 3 inched below the lawn. he charged me for another layer. And it was still too low so he charged me for yet another layer. Final result cost 2x the amount of other companies.
He also paved over the water shutoff and it caused our water to go off. He had to dig up the part of the driveway to get it fixed.
Th edges of the driveway are crooked.
He also offered to come back the next year to seal the driveway. He ignored all calls and messages left for him.
One of his rollers backed into my siding and left some damage that he said he would have fixed. Yeah, sure.

Very Dramatic experience.  Mr. Dukes (Jessie) was recommended by an acquaintance who lives near me. This was in May 2013.  I told him all that I needed done, and he assured me that he could do the entire job for $12,000.  His guys removed the old driveway within first week of our agreement and also pulled up the shrubs we discussed to make space for a patio.
Mr. Dukes asked me if he could put up signs in my yard because I am on a corner of an intersection which is quite busy. He received much business as a result.  However, it was weeks before his guys came back.  Next, he tore out the old floor of the garage and poured concrete.  (The concrete began cracking within a few weeks; when I brought it to his attention, he said that the guys should have used (I forgot the name) braces for a lack of a better word.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dukes has someone working on putting in French drains around one side of my garage and across the front of my porch.  It is now June going into July.  There was a period in which we received a lot of rain which did have some impact on the time that it took for the men to work.  However, I noted more and more driveways were being done at homes around my house; but mine was not completed yet!  Once I protested, the driveway was done while I was on vacation - mid-July.  Mr. Dukes also had to put down dirt in the area where the pavers were to go.
Because all of this, I contacted other persons/companies to get an estimate on putting the pavers down.  By now, I was through with Jessie Dukes.  It was when one of the contractors who came over to look at the intended area told me that his truck was sinking on the pavement, I realized how poor of a job was done on the driveway.  I contacted the city department that oversees such projects.  The head guy, himself, came over to look at the whole job; I got Dukes on the phone and the Deputy Superintendent blasted him.  Unfortunately, I had a handwritten agreement which gave me no protection.
Dukes promised to redo the whole driveway.  However, he didn't feel that that was necessary and his guys only did half of it.  This occurred while I was at work; It didn't look good at all.  I learned from my lawncare guy that the paver machine broke, so the guys used hand rollers to pave the area.
I was so over it!  I became physically sick about this whole matter.  I told Dukes not to even come back about the pavers.  This was a huge and expensive lesson learned by me.  It has tainted me.  Lesson learned.

They did a horrible job and it is disgusting. It took him three months to get it done. I wasted a lot of money. Make sure that the contract is binding. I had no warranties or guarantees to sue them. I had to go to the township and they looked at it and called them. He did a worst job when he re-did it. The paving machine broke and they did it by hand. I trusted him to do the right thing. I do not want to talk to them again. He is a shyster.

Except for the initial interview with the contractor the relationship with Jesse Duke went very badly.  Jesse was difficult to get ahold of unless it was time for a progress payment.  He made promises he did not keep and he overcharged for the work he did (I know this because I received estimates from other contractors after I had already told Jesse to start).  He under-ordered asphalt so I ended up with a line across my driveway about 10 feet from the end.  He promised to come back in the spring to seal the driveway and never showed.  He has never taken my calls at his place of business, on his cell or at home to discuss it.  The driveway edge was not straight but he did repair it by adding to the indented areas to straighten it out.  Overall, I left was extremely frustrated, dissatisfied and overcharged by several thousand dollars.  I wish I had used Angie's list to find a reliable contractor.
