HAL came in with the lowest priced estimate for putting a new roof on our house. He and his crew removed the old roof, and installed IKO shingles (his recommendation). The work was performed in 1996. The shingles had a 25 year warranty. This fall the roof began to leak. I called up HAL to come check the roof. HAL came to my house and checked the roof. He informed me that the shingles had cracked & shrunk and were no good and I would have to get a new roof put on. He informed me that IKO shingles (which he initally recommended) turned out to be poor quality, lots of premature failure and many people were having trouble with them. I was also informed that IKO was not backing their 25 year warranty and it would be more trouble than it was worth to try to make a claim. Searching the internet I found that many people had the same problem. HALs attitude was he would do nothing about it and it was my proplem, not his. I then asked HAL to put a tarp (that I supplied) on the area where the roof was leaking. He did that the next day... and charged me $75 for fifteen minutes of work. Even though his estimate for a new roof was the lowest of several people I contacted, I would NEVER deal with this business again.
