**PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE HIRING ERIE CONSTRUCTION / ERIE HOME / ERIE METAL ROOFING / ERIE CONSTRUCTION MID-WEST, INC. FOR ANYTHING** Let me start by saying that I only write reviews when something is either very good or very bad. This is going to be a long review, as my wife and I have been stuck in a hellish nightmare because of this company, but if you're like me, you'll be thankful if you read the whole thing. Let me also get it out there right in the beginning that we have given Erie PLENTY of time to remedy their mistakes, and they keep dismissing us after promising to make it right. TLDR; I have had THREE roofs put on by Erie since 2018. THREE. We went with Erie because of their 30 year warranty. I did not expect to have to use it so frequently. Our FIRST roof from Erie was installed in 2018. It was a complete tear-off with new fiberglass shingles, and cost us roughly $30K. They installed it in the winter, after I inquired if the tar strips would seal properly in the cold. They assured me it would be okay. A few months in we had to call for repairs. We had leaks in the attic and shingles blown off. A repair person came out and they assured me everything was fixed. Then, that summer, while on vacation, a friend watching our house informed me there was water pouring into our kitchen during a heavy rain and also multiple different water spots in our attic. When I got home we tried calling Erie for a repair person and they never got back to us. I got up on a ladder and noticed that the drip edge was actually running BEHIND our gutters, so rain had been seeping behind the gutters which was in turn rotting my fascia and soffits and getting through into my kitchen. We voiced our concerns about the drip edge, and were assured everything was fine. Fast forward, leaks off and on in the attic (thank God we have an unfinished attic and can tell when there’s water coming through), more phone calls, we can tell the company is starting to get sick dealing with us, but we feel we shouldn’t have to keep asking them to fix a roof we paid tens of thousands of dollars for. We finally got a helpful repair person from them that recommended to his bosses that we get a new roof. Issues he noted were ripped shingles, shingles cut too short, nail pops, tented shingles, globs of tar/caulk, random nails placed where they shouldn’t be, incorrect flashing around vent fan pipe (which led to interior water damage), lightning rods put back up that we specifically asked to be left off the house, and more. After a huge hassle, our SECOND roof was installed on August 6th, 2021. We were hopeful this would be the end of our issues and we could get on with our lives and not have the anxiety of a faulty roof installation constantly looming over us. Boy were we wrong. We still had consistent leaks in the attic during heavy or sustained rain. On top of that, in the fall of 2021, my family was consistently sick (NOT COVID - we tested), lethargic, allergy-like symptoms, brain fog, etc. A doctor informed us we were exhibiting symptoms of mold toxicity. We purchased air filters for multiple rooms which cost hundreds of dollars each and started reaching out to mold remediation companies. After multiple inspections by certified mold specialists, it was determined that we had mold in our house from the faulty roof installation by Erie. We again began the long process of trying to get THEIR MISTAKE taken care of. Every time we contacted them, we’d get passed around to different people that were always so willing to help at first and then they became impossible to get ahold of after the initial conversations. This is consistent across the board at both the Rochester office and the corporate office in Ohio. We finally hired Jim Salmon, a well-known Rochester-area home inspector with a radio show, in September of 2021. He came out to inspect our second roof and noted multiple unsatisfactory mistakes (nail pops, tented shingles, shoddy trim installation, the drip edge again, siding filled with caulk that didn’t even match, etc.) Jim also mentioned how many times he has had to do inspections after work that Erie has done, and how many times he has had to testify in court as an expert witness. He recommended we ask for ANOTHER new roof. On Januray 12th, 2022, Ken, one of the managers at the Rochester office, wrote up a contract amendment for us to fix all of our issues. He had blamed the mistakes on various roofing crews that they had been going through (they sub-contract). We finally thought we were getting somewhere. Ken gave us his personal cell phone and we were hopeful that we were actually making progress. Our third and final (hopefully) roof was installed April 12, 2022. We were told it would be a COMPLETE tear-off (plywood underlayment and all) which did NOT happen. They claimed our plywood was fine. We voiced concerns about the mold. Nobody responded. It’s very difficult to voice these concerns to the crews that are actually doing the work because they sub-contract out to roofing crews that don’t speak English. We felt we were constantly getting screwed over and just couldn’t win. Jim Salmon came and inspected our third roof and said while it wasn’t perfect, he believed it would be the best roof that we would get out of Erie. He advised us that our house couldn’t handle more tear-offs and that the roof would suffice and it looked like the best one out of the three we’ve had since 2018. Now we began to try and get the repairs covered by Erie. They told us they would cover mold remediation, gutter/soffit/fascia repair, and interior water damage. Ken became incredibly difficult to reach. We left messages, texts, e-mails, everything. We then tried going through the corporate office in Ohio and started working with Chris. Again, we were hopeful that we were making progress. Chris informed us on June 7th, 2022 that in order for the corporate office to send payments for the repairs, we needed THREE quotes per repair job. NOBODY EVER TOLD US WE NEEDED THREE QUOTES. We could have provided these months ago. We sent the required quotes later that month, three quotes for each repair job (mold remediation, gutter/soffit/fascia repair, and interior water damage). We also sent them the invoices for the inspection from Jim Salmon and the invoice from having a certified mold specialist come assess the damage. Ken told us multiple times that we would be receiving MULTIPLE checks/payments so that we could in turn pay the contractors to do the work. We later received ONE check (after many calls/texts/e-mails) that didn’t even completely cover ONE of the repair jobs. We immediately used that check for deposits to the contractors so we could get the work completed ASAP and before winter. We had the mold remediation company come and do their work in late August. The mold damage in our bathroom was so severe from the incorrectly installed flashing around the vent fan pipe, that they had to remove our entire tub/shower. So now we have the added cost of trying to install a new tub/shower, Erie has again become impossible to reach, and we have still not received the rest of the payments for the repairs. The contractors are waiting on payments, and we risk not getting on their schedules before winter. We are now calling multiple times per week to try and get the rest of the payments, and again getting passed between employees that want us to start all over again. Ken and Chris, the ones that should know our situation in and out by now, are impossible to reach. We have a baby due in November. We just want our home to be repaired and not have to worry about this any more. It has been an absolute nightmare dealing with Erie. I will never use another company that sub-contracts for anything, and we’re telling everyone we know to stay away from Erie. Our next step is to submit a formal complaint to the Attorney General’s office Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection. Throughout this entire process, we have been extremely patient and pleasant on the phone. We have given Erie PLENTY of time. We REALLY don’t want to have to get a lawyer, but we have a consultation schedul
