"I can't imagine that this homeowner waited 2 tears to put this in here. And not allowing us to fix the problem is really stupid. Roofing vents are very significant when it comes to a roof. If in fact we did not cut the holes for the vents, they won't work...It would take 15 minutes to fix the problem. Here is another homeowner with his head stuck where the sun doesn't shine, again. Between last year and this year, we worked on over 1,000 homes and had 1 complaint. When we finish a job we send out BBB surveys so the homeowner can express there opinion on how we did. Hundreds were sent in with excellent approval. None of them wrote in to angies list. Because angies list is irrelevant. It's a waste of time for most of the people with brains. If there were a problem people would go to court and get there money back. Then legitimately file a complaint on angies list. Instead it makes them feel better and they save a lot of money, and use angies list so they don't seek PROFESSIONAL help. By the way, this guy choose a roof color that no one put on there homes, so we spent extra time and money to spray paint his vents to match the roof color and didn't charge him for our time or the paint. and it took over 4 hours to do that. My advise to any home owner that has a legitimate complaint about a contractor, take them to court. Prove your case. I have handled more than 200 cases in a court of law and every contractor lost there case, and the homeowner got there money back. When you have mental problems you need PROFESSIONAL help, not a contractor, or a court of law."
because we painted them with oil paint (we did paint the exterior door with oil based door and trim paint, the interior door was painted with latex paint). We tried to tell Mr. Ringer that by holding a square to the frame showed how crooked they were but he would not
come to our home himself. After the last call we made to him we were sent a letter stating that if we did not pay the bill in 7 days he would take us to court and contact the 3 major credit bureaus. We paid the bill under protest as we cannot afford to have our credit rating blemished. With the payment we sent pictures showing how the door was not square and where it was hitting, so he could see for himself. We also told him we would be filing a complaint with the BBB and Angie's List. We received another letter stating
we would be sued if we slander or misrepresent ourselves. We are only stating facts that we can back up with pictures.
"My son and i work on over 500 to 600 homes a year depending on the amount of storms we have. Here is another home owner that didn't tell the whole truth. We ordered vinyl replacement windows for him for free, he went to our supplier and picked them up and installed them himself. We did install 2 new doors for him. If a door has a problem it will show itself within 2,3,or even 4 days after it is installed. Their wasn't a problem until 2 1/2 weeks later and just after they painted the door with oil based paint that swelled the door and jams. We even went back to inspect the door and our conclusion was the same. We donot know how they have abused the door in 2 1/2 weeks either. Also we had to reframe the door due to preexisting water damage that no doubt has effected the wall around the door. He also has ant damage due to the wall being wet. He did not pay us to fix that either. 99.9% of the homeowners we do work for appreciate the kind of work we do. One out of 500 homeowners we do work for are always looking to get something for free as is in this case. We also suggested that if he has a problem with the door to file a claim with the manufacture and they would give him a report and we can take it from there, which he hasn't done. So he decided to file a report on angies list. Seams pretty stupid to me. But we have found a lot of homeowners don't do the right thing, and would rather do a report with no proper conclusion or inspection report from a reliable inspector to prove there point. This guy is a cry baby and put to much oil paint on the door instead of a latex paint. Who actually uses oil based paint anymore? Very few people."
When my husband and I questioned the absence of the counter flashing at the time the roof was being done we were told that the flashing was there and covered by shingles so that it would look better. At a later point in time, we were told our old flashing had been reused. Around 9/6/2011 when part of our bedroom wall plaster beneath our window came down. We called them to come and look at it. The son came out and told us that the problem was caused by improperly installed windows and that the issue had been going on for quite some time. (Please note: The windows in question have been in place since before we purchased the house 13 years ago and have never given us any issues.)
I decided that I would check for myself for the existence of flashing. There was flashing pushed up under the window, however, I found gaps under the windows large enough to easily fit a metal coat hanger through. They explained this away by saying that the flashing was pushed up under our windows and ?Everyone knows that water does not run uphill? and insisted that it was the windows were at fault and pointed out that water was trapped between the lower skirting and the window.
This brought up many questions that we needed answered:
1. If the windows are to blame where is the wood rot from prolonged exposure to the weather
2. How come the water was trapped there instead of leaking into the wall?
3. ?Everyone knows that water does not run uphill? so what happened?
When I opened up the wall my questions were answered At least four things come into play.
First - water can be blown uphill
Second - the flashing was bent
Third - there is galvanic corrosion.
Fourth - No caulk was used
The first is the fact that the front windows are north facing and we have gotten considerable heavy rains with strong winds coming out of the north especially this past summer.
The second cause happened by pushing the flashing up under the windows with disregard for any obstructions that are in the walls. The flashing was bent when it came into contact with the old metal window ballasts and created a low point in the flashing in that particular spot. There is evidence of water tracking on both sides of the flashing. Third; when two different metals are in contact with each other and water is added to the mix; galvanic corrosion occurs. So now there is very little flashing left intact in that area, definitely not enough to prevent water or insects from entering or from doing further damage to our home.
Fourth - No caulk was used to prevent water (or insects) from coming in.
We hired an inspector to look at the interior wall and the roof. He confirmed that roof repair is needed to correct the errors of the missing counter flashing, chalking and exposed nail heads.
My husband and I have tried to resolve this amicably. All that we wanted was for our roof to be fixed correctly. My husband called first and met with resistance from the son, who continued to say that the flashing was there and the windows were causing the problem.
That is when I took out a part of the damaged wall to get a better look of what was going on. When I called to ask them to come back out to look at the damage I was talked down to and berated. I was very calm with him while he was not. He did not want to hear me out and got very angry and defensive. He said that the inspector was not an expert and didn't know what he was talking about (This is also stated in the letter). He finally calmed down and agreed to listen and said that they would come out to look. Again they attempted to claim that the windows are at fault and whoever put the windows in should have removed the ballasts. This was before they even looked at the interior wall cavity.
I told them that I disagreed because there are no signs of water damage and no rot to the framing wood or on anything else below the windows. This was met with anger from them. I attempted to prove where the water was coming in from by taking a glass of water and splashing to the outside of where the window meets the roof; they accused me of throwing water at them and stormed out of the room.
I don?t like to be attacked, berated, lied to and falsely accused, so at this point I was angry and I told them to get the F*** out of my house.
"When ever there's a problem with our work,we respond in 1 to 2 days as in this case also. All this women did was cuss and swear the whole time we were there. Finally she actually through water in my face and clothes and my son and i left never to go back. Her problem was her vi nyl windows were installed wrong leaking water, because her slide bars on the window were installed upside down. She also complained to the BBB, so we drew a diagram of what was wrong and we haven't herd from her since. You could tell by the staining that these windows were leaking for years. This woman is obviously frustrated with her life in general and takes her frustration out on anyone she can instead of accepting the fact that she and her husband made a bad decision on the contractor she chose to install her vinyl windows. We also suggested she call him back to fix the problem. We work on Appro. 1000 homes a year . Usually our problem is a home owner just didn't listen to what we are saying. This was a homeowner from HELL."
"This homeowner flat out lied about his circumstance. The problem he was having was due to not having his insulation in his ceiling area, which allowed warm air into his rafter system, which went through his roof line melting his snow into water, quickly, and it refroze at the gutter causing ice daming which always causes water damage. We told him he needs to get an R-factor of 35 to 39 in order to get the daming to a minimun. The water went behind his gutter causing ceiling, floor and wall damage. It was not his step flashing, but his trim work installed by someone else. Also we do not use roofing tar, it's an oil based compond. We use 30 year silicone on everything, not tar. Every time he called we responded to the call within a day or two of the call. We are never responsible for work done by another contractor or any pre-existing condition. You would think that if we actually caused a problem on a $21,000.00 roof the home owner would take us to court. In this case he knew he was wrong and again didn't listen to us to improve on this situation. To this day i'm willing to bet he still hasn't done the insulation yet and not fixed his aluminum trim behind his gutter work which was NOT part of our contract. Just another homeowner venting his bad decision's and frustration on Angies list. He also tried to get my forman to clean his gutters for free. They were filled with debris which caused the the ice to build up higher. He had leafs and sticks and a small tree growing in his gutters. All of this had nothing to do with his new roof."
"Regarding this complaint. I'm not sure how to respond to this. I checked our records for the last 10 years, and we have done no work for someone named in this complaint at this address. And i checked all contracts. This individual is an idiot. This is a perfect example of why people should take any remark on Angie's List about anybody with a huge amount of skeptisium. Some people do not tell the truth. And in this case i would like to see a contract to prove we did any work at all. My son and i are not in a position to give this person the type of professional care he really needs. I wish Angies list would remove this stupid complaint."
