The work was poor quality, especially for the price I paid. The grooves or expansion joints they put in were almost non-existent, and the finish of the concrete was terrible; it was so rough you couldn't even walk on it in your bare feet, let alone sit around the edge of the pool. I complained about this via e-mail, and his response was, "I'll send out guys, in a few days time." I assumed they would schedule a specific date and time with me to do this, or at the very least give me a heads-up before coming to the house. No such luck- they showed up the next day, when no one was home, jumped the fence into the locked pool area, and attempted to make repairs. They did sand the concrete smooth, but the ensuing mess was unbelievable: concrete dust EVERYWHERE, including in the pool and all over the solar cover. It took me almost an entire day to clean it all up, and to this date I don't know if all that debris in the water did any damage to the pump and filter (if I had known when they were going to be there, I would have shut off the automatic timer to the pump to make sure this didn't happen). They tried to repair a crack in the existing concrete (work I would not have asked them to do if I were at home), and the finished job looked as if a 5 year-old had done it; very sloppy and totally unprofessional. To add insult to injury, their truck left a huge puddle of transmission fluid on my recently-coated asphalt driveway, along with black boot marks on our white vinyl fence from where they had to jump it.I relayed all this info to Dan Drabin via another e-mail, and here was his exact response: "I believe your being very unreasonable and I've done What I can to try and name you happy... we needed to take. Out all of the concrete and start over. But in an attempt to save we tried to Do What you asked fir budget purposes. .. I've dine what I can when I can.... you have o realize I can't Neo coming back and do the job fir free... I did What I can do in your price range... try and enjoy your pool"Great- he now admits to doing a sub-standard job, but this is the first time he ever told me that the work he initially did would not fix the problem I had ( "...we needed to take. Out all of the concrete and start over. But in an attempt to save we tried to Do What you asked fir budget purposes...") So here's my response to his text message: "I?ve read your response several times, and I?m amazed that you think I am the one being unreasonable. ?Unreasonable? is refusing to even look at the problems I?ve described. Common sense and a fair business expectation would be to receive a phone call from you to address the issues so that there would be no misunderstandings. ?Unreasonable? is sending a crew when no one is home, climbing over the fence to unlock the locked pool gate and leaving a mess for me to clean up. ?Unreasonable? is telling me at this point that we should have removed ALL the concrete and start over, when you were the one that suggested the work be done in this manner. I?ve looked over our contract several times and NOWHERE does it state that the work you did is not the recommended way to fix what was wrong; in fact, the original estimate doesn?t even mention removing all the concrete. ?Unreasonable? is telling me AFTER the work is done and paid for that what I got is sub-standard work and I have to live with it. And I thought I was being more than reasonable when I didn?t bring up the fact that the rope hooks were never reinstalled in the coping, that your truck left ruts in my front yard, or the huge puddle of oil and/or transmission fluid that was left in my driveway when the unsatisfactory repairs were made. Before taking this to the next level, I?d like to show that I?m a reasonable person and willing to give you the opportunity to make this right. Let?s set up a time for you to take a look at the issues and tell me personally that what I have is worth the $6,000 I?ve paid. If not, then I have no choice but to take other measures to resolve this."And here's his last and final response: "We came out there because you asked us to come out there out of the kindness of my heart to take a look at your concrete work it's tough for us to try and do a section of your concrete without doing the whole thing to try and save you money we have to cut jackhammer break up existing concrete in between your pool and your existing deck that you couldn't afford to remove all of i it's very difficult to do just 1 feet around your pool and have everything come out like carpet you obviously are very un reasonable my guys did their best to come out there and take care of your issues and that's all we're going to do I wouldn't work for you again no matter how much you threaten me you could have somebody else do your work from now on I don't work for people like you I've done all I can to make you happy your too unreasonable for me find someone else."I'll let his rambling responses speak for themselves. If you want one of the rudest, most unprofessional contractors in the Rochester, NY area working around your house, then go ahead and hire Dan. However, if you'd rather deal with someone that will at least take the time to come out and look at the problems he's created, then you definitely you need to find anyone but him.
Description of Work: Hired this contractor (Dan Drabin) to redo the concrete and coping around our in-ground pool, which was needed before a new vinyl liner could be installed (by another company). The contractor originally quoted the removal of all the concrete, but when I balked at the price he then offered to remove the 1 foot of concrete immediately surrounding the pool, along with the coping replacement.
