They offered us a nice variety of products to choose from and a fair price. The work was done promptly and very professionally. They cleaned up after themselves. It was just overall a very good experience. They were pretty prompt.

They did a great job with the siding and everybody was very professional. House looks great and we have had so many compliments on how it looks. They walked us through every step of the proses and we walked the job every day to see the progress. Easy to work with and very accommodating.

American Custom was very responsive when we requested a quote.  The salesperson and all crew members were very professional. The work was very good quality and the crew picked up any debris as best as possible with snow on the ground.  The only compliant is that it took several months (4) for the roofing and siding work to be completed due to their busy schedule.

American Custom is the only company we would use for this type of work. We live on Lake Ontario, and they are very familiar with the weather and wind needs in our area. They provided a thorough estimate of the work, and arrived on time, did a professional job, cleaned up completely, and were courteous and careful. They knew exactly what products we needed, and worked hard to blend the repair seamlessly so that you cant even tell it was done. They came when they said, and completed the work promptly. We would have them come again to do other work on our house.

It was very reasonable because we used three estimates then we chose them. They were very personable and easy to talk to because they have to put in a custom window in my kitchen and my wife was very fussy on as to how she wanted to look. These guys just listened and did a great job of fulfilling our wishes. Everything went really great. I recommended them.

They were amazing--very professional and unbelievably prompt--they had a time schedule and stuck to it. The jobsite was kept clean throughout the process and the dumpster and work trailer were removed from the property the same afternoon the work was completed. The salesman was great as we prepared for the job--I am sure we had more than the usual number and kinds of questions, but he was unflappable--he was unfailingly courteous and supportive as we worked through the decision making process, including getting over the hurdle of color selections! The job foreman encouraged questions throughout the process and worked with us to come up with a satisfactory solution if we had any concerns. The team doing doing the work was conscientious and very hard working. I would certainly have these folks do work for me again.

What can I say about these people?
First, the teams that were sent out to do the various jobs were not
subcontractors. The foreman for the window job worked for them,
for 27 years! The roofers consisted of two experienced members,
the foreman having had 23 years experience with American Custom, and
two relatively new employees (both around two to three years)
learning the business. Nate, the siding foreman, was a 17 year
man, his second in command (Jeff or "Darth", whichever you
prefer) had 11 years, and the others, Steve and Darryl, were
relatively new...one only a couple of months, but he was being taught
by and beginning to be as good as the 17 year man. All of them were
employees of American Custom.
I stayed in touch with the main office regularly to update the schedule, check on material
deliveries, and coordinate other things I was having done at
the same time (the driveway, for example). My contact there,
Kyle, was always available and only once had to call me back.
She was friendly and extremely willing to help even though I may have
become a bit of a pest with all my phone calls and emails. She
never lost her cheerful attitude.
Now...the reason I only gave them only a "B" for professionalism. I see a
professional as a skilled, hard worker, who has a cold personality
but goes about his business quickly and expertly. All of these
guys fit that description perfectly...except for the cold personality
part. All of them were exceptionally willing to talk, listen to
my suggestions, discuss possible modifications to the contract, and
joke and laugh with me. They even let me do some of the things
that they would have normally done themselves. I reinstalled the
security and porch lights, for example. They didn't mind my hanging
around and talking with them, and never complained about what I would
call "getting in the way" or taking photos and videos as
they went through their work.
All of them, from the inital sales contact through the finished clean up, were more like
new friends than what I pictured as usual workers.
Oh...the work they did. Guess that would be the main reason for
contacting a contractor...not to make new friends! They seemed
to take more time than necessary to do a job because they made the
effort to do it correctly. Not just slapping the materials on
the house, but carefully trimming and fitting the pieces...some of
the shingle panels can barely be seen as they are under and above the
soffit trim! I've seen other siding jobs in the neighborhood
where they installers had to be called back to redo sloppy work, but
I can't see ever having to recall American Custom.
The cost? $22,000 seems like a lot, but of the four contractors I
got estimates from, American Custom's total was only about $1,500
higher than the lowest estimate for the same material brands and
type. And lower than the highest. I later decided to make
a couple of changes in materials that decreased the cost a bit.
For example, the biggest difference was in the window. All the
estimates I had for a 4 by 8 foot bay window were in the $3,500 to
$4,000 range...but American Custom 's was only $2150! With a
better guarantee on both the window and their work, and what appeared
to be a much better window (all the energy bells and whistles, extra
interior insulation, disappearing cranks...it was a casement style
bay window...and building it in to match the house's roof at that
point). Mike took more time installing, leveling and fitting the
window than I have ever seen in any of the Big Box subcontract
installers I've seen in the neighborhood!
In summary, they were more than expected at every level. Reasonable cost,
friendly employees, extremely high quality, detailed work from
long term employees with long guarantees on both the materials AND
their labor. And I have no doubt that they will be around to
honor any warranty work if I ever need it.
Yes, I will definitely use them again, and I highly recommend them. They've been
around for almost 30 years for a reason!

The representative who did the estimate was thorough and gave me as much information and time as I needed to make an informed decision. There was no hard sell.
The work was started on schedule and actually completed faster than I anticipated. The workers were professional, polite and left my property as clean as when they arrived. The work was high quality and they did exactly what was promised. Although there was the possibility of a more extensive repair of damaged structure once they started removing the old materials, they only replaced what was necessary and did their best to eliminate any extra costs. The posts holding up the front porch and overhang had settled unevenly and I was amazed at how they were able to repair them so that they now match and look beautiful. I've since noticed that the siding job included many finishing touches that other houses in the neighborhood do not have.
When there were a couple of minor problems after the job was completed, they returned promptly and fixed the problems for no additional charge.
While the costs were slightly higher than some of the other estimates I received (about middle range), I am extremely pleased with the finished product and have already recommended the company to friends.

We had 4 estimates completed for the new roof on our home. While American Custom was not the lowest estimate (they came in right in the middle of the four), they were by far the most thorough and meticulous right down to taking pictures of our existing roof and explaining in detail the work involved. Marc Tantalo was a pleasure to work with. There was no sales pressure whatsoever.

The project took 2 days to complete. The work crew was very professional and they took excellent care of my landscaping and picked up after themselves each day. You wouldn't even know they were ever there!

I am very pleased with their work and would not hesitate to use them again in future projects.

Overall, we are pleased with the job. It hurt to pay that much, but, we accepted that we probably couldn't have gotten it much cheaper.

It was reassuring to call their office and have a human pick up the phone. Everyone I spoke to was very polite and professional, and helpful.

In filing this report, I wanted to give info which I would want to know about when researching contractors on Angie's List. I have cited a few concerns, none of which were major, but, they were resolved, and I have no reason to believe that if any work had been done wrong, they would have fixed it.

Again, we are very pleased with the company and the work done, and would highly recommend them to others. I'm not an easy grader, but this contractor earned an A.

American Custom Exteriors was rude. I had 32 leaks after the roof was put on. They did damage to other parts of the home, including siding which they replaced with a different color. Overall, this was a terrible experience. I highly recommend that no one hire this company.
