We had a complete tearoff of 3 roofings and a replacement for our 3-story house and the efficient work by the team was completed in 2 days! Owner Marty Hill was great at explaining everything! The workers neatly cleaned up everything even using a blower to get all debris off the driveway etc. I recommend this company!

It's been about a year since my bathroom was renovated. Marty and i talked over my options for the layout and the different estimates. Once I decided on the layout, Marty walked me through most of the decisions for fixtures, sink, vanity, etc., giving his thoughts, but never pushing. It took a little longer than predicted due to the Thanksgiving holiday and because I asked about a second small job, which was added. Chris and Teddy, the crew, were wonderful. Chris kept me apprised of what was going on, timelines, made suggestions when I needed advice, etc. and Teddy was good at keeping things in perspective. Those two really complimented each other's strengths. I was home pretty much all the time and they were courteous, professional and good natured. They didn't rush but they never dawdled. The few mistakes made, whether mine or theirs, were rectified immediately. I really enjoy my new bathroom, even now, a year later. The project came in a little under the estimate. This is the second time I have done business with Marty and his crew and plan to continue with him in the future.

When Marty is "on" we have received some of the best service from A-Best that we've had in many years. However, when he is "off" we couldn't get a response from him for days/weeks, and he has essentially cut and run a few years after our roof replacement. He needs to hire someone who can manage his business when he is away or otherwise occupied. The quality of work done by his crew was mixed. The shingles that Marty picked are great quality and the installation has been mostly solid. A cheap drip edge that doesn't have proper kick-outs was installed around the house (these details were not discussed in the quote). On about half of our house, the drip edge was installed properly, such that it hangs out over the gutter. But about half of the house had the drip edge flat against the fascia, wedged behind the back of the gutters. No one can see that detail from the ground. Naturally, we have taken water damage (water-stained soffits and peeling paint in the interior walls adjacent to these gutters) in those spots because of the improper installation of drip edge. When we first noticed that problem on one side of the house (easy to see on our first floor porch roof), perhaps a few months after installation, Marty was responsive and came right out to bend the drip edge out above the gutter, which fixed the problem on that side. We didn't learn about the problem on another side of the house until two years later, after water damage had started to show. After repeated texts/calls I gave up trying to get A-Best to back up their work and I got up on my own ladder and bent the drip edge out myself. The only rain leak in the roof came around a furnace exhaust pipe that penetrates the roof deck. The caulk they used was now dried and separated from the shingles and flashing. I took some roofing caulk up there myself and sealed around the boot flashing. This has held so far and hopefully the leak won't pop up again. A-Best also installed a bathroom exhaust fan for us that has worked out well. If Marty had a good office manager, I believe A-Best would be doing top-notch work. He doesn't have the bandwidth to correct old mistakes on his own, and is too busy to handle everything on his plate. He also needs better site management to keep the crews doing proper installation.

We were very pleased with the work from start to finish. Marty and his crew worked hard, kept us informed and completed the project in a short time period.

When Marty Hill (owner, A Best Construction) first arrived to look at the bathroom, he provided a range of possible options for fixing the problems. He was extremely receptive to my financial circumstances and respectful of the limitations of my budget. We were able to work together to find a plan that would address all of the most pressing plumbing, tile, and mold issues, while also providing a very attractive cosmetic result. I can't say enough for the integrity of Marty and his crew. The gentlemen who worked on the bathroom (Chad and Hector) were highly skilled, pleasant, punctual, and extremely professional. They were accessible and receptive to any questions. When I returned home each day, the bathroom was left neat and orderly. The final result was beyond my expectations-- it is truly beautiful and such a welcome change after having a bathroom that was barely functioning in the months prior to the renovation! In having an opportunity to work with A Best Construction on this project, it became clear that the owner and crew members are extremely experienced and work very hard to meet the needs of the customer. I look forward to an opportunity to work with A Best Construction on future home improvement projects, and I would recommend them without hesitation.

Marty Hill was very responsive right from the start, providing information and answering questions more quickly than the other contractors we considered. He was very clear about what work he was planning and honest about things he wouldn't be able to get done on our timeline. His overall price was competitive even compared to discounted prices from others. Starting as soon as possible was a big factor for us and he shuffled his schedule to fit us in early. The work was done within the timeline he forecast (9 weeks for this job), and the quality of both his crew's labor and his suppliers' materials was very good. There were several plumbing issues which had to be re-worked, but all were quickly fixed once discovered. We were very satisfied and will use A Best again in the future.

We were very pleased with the job. Marty has a lot of experience and guided us through the various phases. Both him and his crew are experienced, pay attention to detail, and liked to have a quick discussion with us every morning to talk about any concerns. This approach worked very well. It set expectations, kept everyone on the same page, and eliminated any surprises. we were definitely kept involved at every step.

These jobs were performed in summer 2016. I waited to write the review to see if I was as satisfied in the longer term as I felt when the job was done. And the answer is yes, I am very satisfied. 1) done in one day with 2 crews working. Roof extension was beautifully built; you can't tell where it was done. Everyone was willing to answer any questions or direct me to someone who could. There was a pecking order among the crew but there wasn't any bullying teasing going on. Everyone was respectful toward me. Excellent job of cleaning up. This is the third time I've had a roof put on and cleanup has varied a lot. 2) Completely satisfied with the results. So far no icicles hanging off the house in winter. 3) I believe this was subcontracted with someone Marty works with regularly. I didn't inspect the work visually. I can tell you my heating and cooling bills dropped about $50 a month on the budget plan though. 4) This was subcontracted, again with someone who works with Marty on a regular basis. Turned out one gutter didn't drain as well as the others. Marty kept in contact with the subcontractor until the gutter was fixed. I later learned the subcontractor was ill and his worker had a child with cancer so they were going through a period of stress and struggle. When I clean out the gutters, they are completely dry, even if it rained earlier.

Workers showed up on time and were very friendly as well as professional. Did a great job, well done.

Left message and was contacted by Marty Hill to set up meeting for estimate. Marty listened to my concerns regarding a problem with water getting behind the cedar siding on the house. He proposed a solution that involved cutting some cedar and mineral siding out, running ice and water shield and flashing up the side of the house and covering with a cedar trim board that matched the other house trim. Two other firms that I got estimates from did not propose such an involved, but complete solution. Relative to the other estimates and the work that was proposed, the price was reasonable. It was not the lowest and not the highest. Also, the work could be done within a few weeks. The work crew showed up when they said they would and did what they said they would do. The workers were friendly, courteous and respectful of my property. They did professional work and cleaned up extremely well. The lead roofer Nick and lead carpenter Chris were great to interact with. Marty made multiple visits to monitor progress and ensure I was satisfied. No payment was expected until all the work was done and inspected by Marty and myself. I paid with a personal check and used the Angie's List coupon. The only thing that was a little different is that no formal estimate form was provided. Marty sent an email describing the work and price, but it was just a long paragraph. To help compare to the other quotes, I broke the paragraph into sections for clarity and this is what Marty and I used to agree to the job. Marty did have his insurance carrier send me proof of his insurance. I'm not sure the other places that I contacted would do that. Overall it was a good experience. The water behind the siding issue appears to be fixed and I am pretty confident that if a related issue should arise, Marty will address it.

Marty was very pleasant. Came promptly, gave us a very ROM estimate ($5000-7000) and promised to follow up within 2 weeks with the kitchen re-design plan and quotation. We have never received that plan and quotation, in spite of 2 reminders.

The owner, Marty, was spectacular to work with. Always on time or early for planning appointments, always returned phone calls (so rare with many small business owners), and the day of construction was seamless. His crew had it all done before dinner. Clean-up was superb, as promised (we have three young children who play outside so that was a priority).

Excellent work replacing some trim boards badly damaged by bees and birds. Quickly replaced and painted. Also replaced and riveted a missing section of downspout that led to the trim rot.

They were very professional. I thought it was a fair price. They took the bathroom down to the 2x4's. They did a little more work than what they were paid, actually. The bathroom is awesome. From the day the project started till the day it ended, the workers were there on time and didn't leave until the end of the day. They cleaned up each day and took the trash with them. They answered my call right away.

The job went well. We are extremely pleased with the results. Marty Hill is very professional, and takes great pride in the work that he and his team do. I would highly recommend him if you are interested in a roofing project.

They just completed my bathroom (second project). i am thrilled with the work that they did. The team was great (thanks Chris). This company is alway in contact with the you though out the project making sure you are happy. I will be calling them again as soon as i pick out my backsplash for my kitchen.

Marty suggested we leave the old storm windows on but the manufacturer of Lowe's windows said it would void the warranty. Marty's recommended window manufacturer had a class action law suit against it for bad manufacturing so we went with Lowe's. Our new bathroom sinks still didn't work right (stoppers were in wrong), so we paid another company to fix them. Marty's price to remodel our kitchen was too high (11/15 I wrote "we'll see" about kitchen remodel). But Marty connected us with a good kitchen designer. So we are thankful for that. I like Marty but it seemed you had to fix things two and three times to get it right.

It went exactly the way Marty Hill said it would go. The work was completed one week ahead of schedule. I picked all of the flooring, cabinets, light fixtures, countertops, down to the smallest item the covers for the light fixtures. Marty gave his guidance however, he installed what I wanted. I was walked thru everything one step at a time so I did not become overwhelmed. When I visited the house I always felt that I was welcome not an intrusion. His crew was courteous and helpful in explaining what was happening in the repair process. The work was done A Best. I recommend him to everyone I see. Thank you Marty and Crew.
