Do not use this company. Not reliable and when over $30k in damage caused to my pavers from their work which they acknowledge in text messages, contact from the owner Josh discontinued and his staff accused me of not answer their calls and blocking them from me texts. Never blocked anyone in my life, never received any calls. Multiple promises to return to inspect and repair. Job completed in April and on day 1 we there was a big problem. They showed up once a month later and made matters worse, not better. Now total silence. I had Pavertastic clean the brick pavers, resand and seal. My beautiful red brick now has grey staining everywhere and looks terrible. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING!!!!!!!!

Salesman talked it up........but no delivery on what he promised .........Poor job, sparingly used new grout like it was made of gold. Had to call back to fix. Still looks bad not worth the price I paid to use 1/8th of a 7 dollar tube of caulk. Paid 500 cash.............. after I saw what they actually did i feel it was worth 200 at best. Stay away from this company folks. BTW I use Angies list ALL THE TIME......... Have given stellar ratings in the past...........not here stay away

"[Member Name Removed], I'm an very sorry to see a review like this. You never expressed any of this when you called us back for a touch up. Why not? I believe you have miss represented what your job was about. The job in question was $350 plus tax. Not $500. You had originally called us because your kitchen floor ( which was over [Member Information Removed] years old) has multiple loose tile and the grout was cracked all over. This was Pre existing before and why you called us. I came to your house on time for the estimate. Explained exactly what we could do and gave you a choice. You would need to have a contractor come and rip up and redo the floor or we could patch it up . You decided to go with my suggestion of filling the missing grout with a color matched sanded caulk as it would flex with the loose tiles because you did not want the expense of renovating. As my estimate stated for $350 in a separate line on my estimate" FLOOR IS LOOSE- BEST AS POSSIBLE" . I was straight forward and honest with you. When you called for a touch up we asked no questions besides what the issue was and when we could send the technicians. Were more than happy to do a touch up although we were under no obligation . I would ask you to be honest and update your grade as its is not honest. I would also be happy to upload the original estimate that that clearly states exactly what we did and your signature after the job accepting it! Please call me to discuss. Thank you Josh"

Josh (who provided the estimate) said to not expect a "wow" effect - well, we are wow'd!!!!!  We have a white and grey river rock bathroom floor and the grout needed to be cleaned again.  I had previously hired one of the other grout cleaning companies and was not thrilled with the result.  We were even contemplating replacing the floor.  I must say that we are thrilled with the results!!!  Not only were the guys prompt, they were early.  there were very careful (took off their shoes to not get snow and salt in the house)

They put down a drop cloth and corner guards to protect the paint.  Once they got upstairs, they discovered they could bring the hose through the window which would save having to drag it through the house.  Nick and John were hard working and professional and very nice, too. We will have them back next year!!

"[member name removed] I appreciate your honesty within this review. I am concerned about your comment though that "within the first 5 minutes the technicians requested a roll of paper towels because they did not have anymore". This concerns me because here at Groutastic we strive for excellence and customer satisfaction, and also because we do not use paper towels for any services we perform, we use cloth rags, and therefore, paper towels would not be a stocked item. It’s important to me to get to the bottom of this to ensure we are performing our services properly. That being said, we have attempted to locate your job history and after an in depth search of our records we have had no success. We have checked a multitude of areas, and searched in a multitude of ways within our 2 customer databases, along with our manual and online calendars and accounting program for September 24, 2014. So may I ask…Is it possible that the job is under a different last name than the one on this review? Or, do you have a copy of the estimate/job form you received? And, do you recall what the technicians used the paper towels for? And lastly, I do not want to pass blame but are you certain you are reviewing the correct company? I appreciate your assistance and look forward to hearing from you. Josh"

The owner came to do the estimate. He was very nice, cleancut. He was very specific about how his company would perform the regrout. He told me that they would scrape out the old grout before they put in new grout. He also accommodated my request to get the job done before Thanksgiving because I was having company.

The regrout and carpet cleaning were really done nicely. The guys took their time and were very polite and courteous. The job, both the carpet cleaning and regrout, came out great.

I would definitely recommend them.

Josh came for estimate took the time to answer all my questions. Price was reasonable, the work was completed as explained and we are very pleased.  Was a great way to improve the look of my kitchen floor until we are ready to replace it.
Would recommend Josh to others. His office is efficient and work was professional and done exactly as explained.

I had gotten a recommendation to call Groutastic. A friend of mine, Susan, had just used them and told me to call Josh, the owner to spruce my place up. I was getting ready to move out of a rental property and wanted to make sure that everything looked great before the owner inspected it. I called the office. I don't remember the young lady's name, but she was very sweet and helped me schedule an estimate. Josh came and gave me an estimate. He was a really nice guy and knew his stuff. He was dressed professionally in a company shirt so I knew exactly who he was and what company he was with. I called the office the next day and scheduled the work for the following week. *This work was performed at a property I was renting in Massapequa, NY. The drop down screen below will only let me select my billing address (which is different) or at provider location. First, Josh's crew (2 guys) came and cleaned the tile and grout in my kitchen and bathroom. They sealed the grout afterwards and it looked better than it had before. Then, they caulked the shower. Before they put new caulk in, they removed the old caulk which had black spots/mold. They put in new caulk and it made quite a difference. Lastly, they cleaned the carpet in both of the bedrooms. Great job. What I really liked was that one of the worker's walked me through the job before he started doing anything. I had a lot of questions about when I could shower after the caulking was done, how soon I could walk on the carpets, etc. He was really patient with me and had all of the answers. After the job was done, he walked me through the house and made sure I was satisfied with every part of the job. I most certainly was. I told him I would be calling Josh again once I moved into my new place.

I had contacted Groutastic regarding my shower and inquired about two things. First, I needed the grout removed where it met the shower tray because it was cracking, and I wanted caulk put in, as it should have been done when installed. I also inquired about having all the grout replaced among the tiles. Josh came and inspected my shower. He said they could not replace all the grout because the grout lines were large and the existing grout was not sanded grout like it should have been but smooth. Although his explanation on why he could not do it made no sense, I was fine with that because the condition of the grout was good and it was not necessary. He said his men could remove the grout where it met the shower tray, in the corners, and where the tile met the ceiling and replace it with caulk. His men came and performed the job. It took less than an hour and I was advised not to use the shower for the next 24-48 hours which I did not. Approximately 2 months later, I started getting cracks in the caulk. I also started to get mold behind the caulk which I thought was very odd. When I touched the caulk down by the shower tray, there were soft spots I could push in and hard spot where I could not. Prior to having the job done, I had attempted removing the existing grout myself but had difficulty, which is why I called Groutastic. The soft spots were where I had removed grout. I was concerned the crew may have caulked over the existing grout, and never removed it. I called Groutastic and they said the guys would come back and ?touch it up? and that cracking could be expected after a first application. When they came to my house I explained the whole situation and said I was concerned the existing grout was never removed. They assured me it was and specially recalled working on my shower. I left them to do their job, and 5 minutes later they called me to look at the shower. They had made a small incision in the caulk and showed me the caulk was wet. They explained I must have had a leak behind the shower wall, or some type of moisture, which caused both the mold and the ?softness?. They said they would touch it up but could not guarantee it would come back. They touched it up, and applied more caulk over the existing cracks. It wasn?t until after they left that I wondered why they caulk would be wet. It is caulk- a silicone product. Once applied it would have dried. If there was a leak, this would not cause the caulk to become a wet putty. If water did that, then every time I took a shower, the caulk in my bathroom would fall apart. Needless to say, the cracks came back within two weeks. At that point I decided to tackle the problem myself. I removed the caulk Groutastic applied and right behind was the existing grout that was never removed. I called Groutastic and explained the situation to the receptionist and asked to speak to Josh. She took a message and said he would call me back. A day later, the receptionist called me back and said Josh had preferred that I had not removed all the caulking but his crew would come back and ?touch up?. I explained this needed more of a touch up, and did not want the same crew to come back because they did not do what they were suppose to be the first time. I had hoped to speak to Josh directly but I was unable to. At that point I emailed Josh the situation. Josh responded and was very defensive and explained that I misunderstood the work that was to be done. He explained only the old grout that is past the face of the tile gets scraped. The caulk is then applied over the edge of the tile. He explained the caulking was due to movement in the tub, not because of the job (I had inquired why they did not weigh the shower tray down when applying the caulk- according to everyone I?ve spoken to familiar with caulking- this is a basic standard of practice because it will cause cracking in caulk if not done). He also explained that my tray must be pitched back and that is causing moisture and mold. I had provided photos of the grout after I removed the caulk. Absolutely none of the existing grout was removed prior to applying the caulk. And I am not an expert, but usually its grout or caulk- one or the other, not both- one does not caulk over grout. I also measured my tray with a level- and it was completely level. I believe caulking over grout is a better explanation as to why I had the mold. Eventually I purchase a tool and removed all the grout. I then applied caulk- and weighed the tray down while applying and while it dried. It?s been well over 6 months and it had not had a mold issue nor a single crack. I do not trust this company. Josh in his emails was very defensive, and accused me of calling his men dishonest which he assured me they were not. Yet he never said he himself would come to my house to inspect the job that was done. The only thing he offered was for his men to return to do a touch up. They did one touch up and it was a failure. I did not need a second touch up- I needed the job to be re-done the way it was supposed to have been done according to the contract. Unfortunately I had to do it myself. I wish I had done it myself originally rather than paying Groutastic to do it and winding up with all this frustration.

"Hello [member name removed],                                    I wanted to follow up with you about your Angie's list post before I  submit my response back to Angies list.  Your original work was done on 11/5/2012. You contacted us months after the work was done about an issue you were having with the caulking.  We were more than happy to send the mechanics back to touch up anything that was needed. No questions asked.  In fact the job was out of our warrantee and we still more than happy to come back for you. My guys came back and you showed them what the issue was. The guys were more than happy to take care of the caulking issue and explained to you what might be going on. They told you that the water could be sitting on the caulk after someone showers which can easily make the caulk soft and eventually mold. A common issues with customers showers/tubs.  Typical after someone showers the water gets on the shower walls and gravity pulls the water down to the shower base. The water then sits on the ledge of the shower pan. From there the tub/shower  is flat and/or not pitched so the water does not drain properly. This water sitting on the caulks will in fact make the caulk soft. The other reason could be a leak in the plumbing somewhere. They were only suggestions from our experience. In fact.....We caulked your entire shower. Every corner including the sops dish, up the walls, the ceiling where it meets the tile, your seat and shower pan. If the caulking was not done correctly why did not every thing else mold, crack or become soft?  The rest of the caulk is good because its drying out unlike the base of your shower.  Your touch up was on 4/19/2013 . You emailed us again on 6/19/2013 saying that " I feel a dishonest job was performed"   Instead of emailing you back I picked up the phone to talk directly to you to find out what was going on with the shower and to see how we can fix your issue. You never called back.  Over a month later on 7/21/2013  you did not call me back but emailed me back. And I quote this from your email to me. from: [member name and email removed] to:  [email protected] date:  Sun, Jul 21, 2013 at 11:44 AM subject:  FW: Service Follow Up mailed-by:  bounce.secureserver.net Hi Josh,   I am following up on a voicemail you left awhile back regarding the message I sent you about the work that was done to my shower (below).  Unfortunately I did not get to listen to the message in entirety and it was deleted off my phone.  My schedule has been very hectic, and I have not have time to respond to this matter. I am currently in the process of removing the old caulk so I can apply new. " I then emailed you back saying that I had called you back instead of emailing and was happy to come back again. As I said before...I'm very sorry that your having any problems. I was professional as were my mechanics and office. We preformed the job correctly as we do with all our customers. We have been in business for over 9 years and have caulked hundreds of showers the same way.  Every step of the way we explained to you what we thought the issue was. 1. We offered to come back with no question at all ever after the warranty was over. 2. This was a $125 Re-Caulking of your shower that had moldy and cracked caulk in before we started.   3. You signed the estimate form saying that you read and understood the estimate and that the work preformed to your satisfaction. 4. It also says on the front of the estimate the" Some jobs my require touch ups due tot he nature of our work. We will be happy to accommodate you". Which we did accommodate you and would of again . 5. We also did a few hundred dollars worth of other work in your shower that you make no mention of at all You should of just spoke to us about this instead of making a complaint 2 years after the job was completed.  Over all I understand what your upset about  but you are misleading in your complaint."

They did a fine job, the hard water solution they put on the shower door didn't last but he told me it wouldn't last when he applied it.

03/11/2014 (Update) I thought the work was done just fine back in April, but I called them back in October to tell them the grout had cracked, and it seems to all be cracked around the tub. The work didn't last as long as I had antipicated.

Updated (3-24-14) The owner came out to my house, explained everything about my tub, resolved any issues and did not charge me. He sent his crew back again to fix the tub and a couple other places as well.

"(Member name removed), Thank you for the review ad very glad your happy with our work. With the shower doors please keep in mind that we did clean them and they came out really nice. Unfortunately we can not stop the hard water that naturally happens from coming back. We did put a coating on the inside of the glass but its only to help slow it down. The only way to stop it is to have a plumber put a hard water system in your house. My suggestion would be to use Rainx on the inside of your shower glass. You can buy rainx at an automotive store. Thank you again! Josh"

I am very dissatisfied with the work Groutastic performed last week. Even more upsetting, however, was the attitude of the owner, Josh Kaplan. When I called him back to look at the shoddy work his men provided. He virtually accused me of lying...& that has never happened to me in my entire life...let along by a service provider. He refuses to redo what is necessary for me to be a satisfied customer. I'm feeling very outraged by his lack of professionalism. I paid $650 for this job.

Mr. Kaplan virtually accused me of lying when I unequivocally stated that I had never been shown a grout color chart by him.  He even refused to show  me these samples yesterday when we met to 'resolve' my dissatisfaction with the work.  After several of my requests, he finally showed me the samples.  I put them up to the existing grout in my bathroom (not the regrout that Groutastic did in the tub area), & lo & behold, I picked Antique White--NOT the Snow White that had been applied.   Doesn't this prove that I never saw the samples as I was able to select the correct shade when a color palette was offered?  I explicitly pointed out to Mr. Kaplan when we first met to discuss the job that the grout color I wanted for the tub area was not a true white, but more of a very light greyish tint white.  He said there'd be no problem as Snow White would be appropriate.  Of course I trusted his judgment & never even knew there was a color palette of grout samples I could have chosen from!  Obviously, customer satisfaction &  professionalism are at the bottom of Mr. Kaplan's list.  Shame on him, & what a disgrace to Angie's List!
