Description of Work: HVGI owner Kevin Andros came to the house by referral from a friend, who had excellent experiences with them. Our cathedral ceiling had condensation forming, causing water damage. Kevin came to inspect the problem and spend much time and effort to research a viable solution. He spoke to other building experts and intensively looked into the matter. He provided several foam samples to us in advance to assure that my wife had no problem with it, due to her asthma. The insulation proved to be completely safe and in no way caused problems. We then proceeded with the job. Kevin and his team did a very clean job, without leaving a mess. The work was even and consistent. They took great care to do the job right and were in every way professional, courteous and professional. We would recommend them highly as trustworthy, skilled, knowledgeable and efficient. It was a pleasure to do business with them. I would be pleased if all contractors that worked in our home over the past 25 years were as professional as this team.

I contacted HVGI for an estimate and met with Brian, Kevin's dad, to go over my project. I inquired about having my basement insulated with blown-in insulation to make my home warmer. At the outset Brian was very pleasant and determined that if I insulated the rim joists my home would benefit dramatically. When I asked him approximately what it would cost he said that he doesn't normally give pricing but seeing it wasn't a very big project it probably would not cost much more than several hundred dollars - but again said he didn't like to give "guesstimates" as he was not the person in charge of pricing, that was his son's job. After Brian left I called him back and requested that he give me a price for additional insulation in the ceiling of my basement, what is referred to as the floor joists. Brian said he was planning on giving me two prices and told me I would receive the estimate via email in a day or two. I rec'd the estimate a week later with the price of the job. The "small job" of doing the rim joists was billed at $267. The remaining work was billed at $1,550, totaling $1,817 on the estimate. I called Brian and left him two messages, neither of which he returned. I then decided to send an email inquiring about the R factor of the product (which was not indicated on the estimate) as well as my request to just do the rim joists at this point in time and requesting a date to have the job done. The reply I rec'd from Kevin was as follows: "See the attached spec sheet from Biobased Insulation regarding the R values. In order to spray our product, there is a large amount of equipment, and set up involved, and as such, spraying just your box sill area is not feasible for me to do at this price. I based the line item price for the box sill, based on doing the whole job. Are you still considering doing the rest of the job? Please call us to discuss this further if you would like." I replied via email and heard nothing back. I then called to find out what it would cost to do only the rim joists, and got Brian on the phone. He proceeded to tell me that it would not benefit them to do the job at the price they put down and that it would not be cost effective for them to do my job so it seems that Hudson Valley Green Insulation, LLC is only interested in BIG JOBS, they will not do small jobs. It is unfortunate that there are companies out there that conduct themselves in this manner, especially since there are many homeowners, like myself, who HAVE small jobs that need to get done. Brian went on to explain how they were a small company, yet I have a small job and they are not interested in doing it. I will certainly not recommend them to anyone and would never hire them to do my job as I feel they are deceptive and engage in unfair business practices and are a waste of my time. They are also extremely unprofessional.
