KULAK NURSERY & LANDSCAPING

I had some landscaping done by Kulak's Nursery. They did a great job, however... Through what I can only call administrative incompetence on their part, what I thought was going to be a $1,500 job was invoiced at $3,600. And they gave me no concession when I complained. I'm not saying don't use them, but if you do, make sure that you get a proper estimate from them. I can tell you that I'll never use them again.

They delivered on time, and the driver was  nice.
The mulch appeared to be dark brown at the store, and I expected it would be coarse enough to make my gardens look "dressed" and stand out.  We didn't want black, and the dark brown appeared to be what we wanted.  Unfortunately, it only looks dark when wet but when we spread it on two small gardens it dried to a very light brown.  It is also very very fine, to the point that it is almost wood powder with pieces of slivered stick etc.  At the first rain the fine stuff compacted down flat and now it looks like just plain dirt from a few feet away, same color and solid pack.  If you like your mulch double ground so it is half composted before you get it, you will like their special dark mulch.   Maybe it would do well in a vegetable garden where looks don't matter and you want your mulch to turn to dirt next year.
We have large garden areas and don't want to put the rest of it on them.  I contacted Kulaks and they responded quickly (the second time) when I told them the mulch  was not what we expected and we don't like it.  They told me that is what that special dark mulch is, double ground.   End of story.
So we are going to have to buy something else from someone else to get the look we want.  If you are looking to "dress up" the looks of your gardens and you want something that stands out and isn't going to compost right away  - order a different kind.

The patio work was an excellent job. No complaints at all.
Regarding the 5 pine trees (approx 6 feet high) he planted, one is thriving - the other 4 are limping along. They are about 2 years old now, and may not live to see 3. That's poor value for $1,000. Calls to his (John Kulak) phone to request someone stop by and take a look have gone unanswered.
Regarding the shrubs/bushes - two of them died after less than a year. Last Spring he indicated he would replace them over the course of the summer. That never happened. There are a few others that look quite sickly - overall, disappointing quality.
We've called him twice already this year asking about getting the two dead ones replaced. Despite his office v/m stating he'll call you back if you leave a message, don't hold your breath. We're planning to replace them ourselves.

I had the person that runs the landscaping come here. She was very punctual and professional. They offered some very good suggestions, and their price was probably a little bit higher compared to the other people that came out. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

Excellent variety of trees- not as wide a variety (adequate but not as good as Faddegons) for the perennials. The salesperson took a great deal of time helping us make decisions and both the tree and the perennials in front remain healthy. Installation of the tree was timely and professional

John came over promptly and worked with my wife and I and layed out work to be done with good advice and reccomendations.He added some creative touches that we had not considered before.The paver work and drainage system were completed within a week of the layout,the patio and walkway were finished to perfection. We were so impressed with the work done that on the day he arrived with a truckfull of trees and shrubs to select for planting that we asked him if he could extend the patio under the second story 10'x12' deck and add a sitting wall.Amazingly within the hour this work was started.We had expected him to merely add pavers to the work already completed but he actually removed some of the original patio to make the final project seamless!All the work was done to perfection. While the patio work was being done we were going over the entire property with John selecting the actual trees and shrubs to be planted.Once the plants were selected his crew had them planted within minutes and with decirative rocks and mulch our property was transformed from a construction site into a beautiful home.

THEY ARE A GOOD COMPANY, THE GUYS THAT DELIVERED WERE NICE. I ASKED ON PRETTY SHORT NOTICE AND THEY DID IT THE NEXT DAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT WAS A GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT AND THEY WERE VERY RESPONSIVE.

I SAW AN AD IN THE PAPER, CALLED THEM AND INQUIRED ABOUT THE QUALITIES THEY HAD. WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS THEY DELIVERED THE MULCH. I WANTED IT IN A SPECIFIC LOCATION AND THEY DID A GOOD JOB.

I LIKED THE CHOICES OF THE PLANTS THAT THEY BROUGHT. I THINK THAT THEY COULD HAVE COULD BEEN A LITTLE LESS EXPENSIVE FOR THE PLANT CHOICES THAT THEY BROUGHT IN.

I WASN'T PLEASED THE SECOND TIME AROUND. I DIDN'T THINK THEY WERE VERY RESPONSIVE FOR A REPEAT CUSTOMER. THE JOB LOOKED KIND OF SLOPPY WHEN THEY WERE FINISHED WITH IT.
