"[Member Name Removed], We at Fox Air have always taken great pride in our professionalism and technical skills. The safety of every home we enter is our first priority every day."
FWIW we're also very happy with the equipment itself. It's been warm so far this winter of course, but the gauge on the oil tank has barely budged, so the Lennox heat pumps Fox sells seem to be working as advertised. The house is comfortable, the new air handlers are much more quiet and efficient than the old ones, and it's amazing to have our home warmed without the furnace running. Of course the price of oil is down for now, but it still feels good to know we're pumping less carbon into the atmosphere than before. Anyway, we couldn't be happier with the whole process. It was expensive, but the Fox quotes were in line with others, and they did a great job from the initial evaluation and proposal through the installation, and then followup afterwards.
The tech worked for less than 30 minutes and no parts were required. I was shocked when the bill was almost $300! He said that and quot;whatever it takesand quot; means charges out of a service book. This was the FIRST and ONLY time this was mentioned. He charged $145 to step in the house and about $120 to check voltages (plus tax, of course). He said he was doing me a favor because he checked two voltages ($120 each) and air pressure (about $140), so the bill could be almost $400 on top of the $145 to show up. It took less than 30 minutes!!!! This company might actually charge people over $500 for 30 minutes of work???
Over the following months I called EVERY heating repair company in the area. I only found ONE company that charges fees from a service book and they voluntarily stressed this fact. They charge $25 to come out and provide a written estimate before doing any work. All the other companies charge by the hour plus parts. Most were in the $140 to $170 range for the first hour of service on an emergency call at night or weekends. (One company even said they typically charge the normal daytime service rate during evenings and on weekends as long as it's not extremely late - after 10PM.) A few companies charge a fuel fee to come out. The rates of most companies I spoke to sounded pretty reasonable and almost every company voluntarily and openly provided detailed information on their fee policies - something that did NOT happen with FoxAir. I have the feeling the service tech intended to mislead in regards to their fee structure.
I contacted the company owner and received no response. In speaking with others about my experience with this company, I've heard several other stories of misleading practices and price gauging. If you want to pay a reasonable, competitive amount to have any type of work done, this is NOT the company to work with. At least one good thing came from this; I was motivated to take the time to research charges from competitors so I have a list of several heating contractors (with the best blend of price and response) to call the next time I have a no-heat issue with a furnace, especially outside of normal business hours.
When a service provider goes above and beyond all expectations, recognition is deserved. My intent in posting this review is to express unequivocal praise for the EXCEPTIONAL job FoxAir performed at our Dutchess County home in October. Led by knowledgeable, personable, and experienced Nate Rose, the Fox Air team ably fulfilled our request to completely wean our property from oil heat.
The FoxAir crew:
1) removed two 25-year old oil furnaces, an oil-fired water heater, and the two large oil tanks that had supplied them. (This chore was made all the more difficult by the fact that one of the furnaces and both oil tanks were located beneath the house in a 4-ft high crawl space);
2) helped us to select the optimal ultra-high efficiency propane-fired replacements for the old units;
3) installed all the new equipment, tying it into our existing air conditioning system and ductwork.Given the complexity and difficult accessibility aspects of this job, numerous other installers in the area either wouldn't touch it or came back with bids in the stratosphere. Of the few that were willing to take-on the job, FoxAir was the only one that did so enthusiastically! They were not the low-bidder (though their estimate was certainly reasonable), but given the superlative reviews found here on Angie's List and the very strong impression Nate made on us, we decided to entrust the job to FoxAir. SO GLAD WE DID!
The work was performed on schedule, by kind and considerate gentlemen, and with almost compulsive attention to detail. (We can be very demanding people, but in every regard, FoxAir exceeded our expectations. There was literally nothing for us to gripe about!!!) Everything was completed for the stated price, and the installers cleaned-up after themselves, leaving us with nothing to do afterward save enjoy the new system.
Unexpectedly, FoxAir threw-in new Honeywell digital/programmable thermostats at no added expense to us. I didn't think they'd really make any difference over our older ones, but I must admit, being able to raise and lower the temperature from my iPad when we're away from the house has really come in handy. (I suspect this feature alone will save us real $$$ over the years.)
Included in the sale was the next two-years of full maintenance by FoxAir. What's more, the conversion entitles us to significant rebates from both the furnace manufacturer (Lennox) and from the electric utility company (Central Hudson), and FoxAir filed all the paperwork for us!!! All we needed to do was deposit the checks as they arrived; not bad!
Folks, it gets no better than this... We are delighted to recommend FoxAir without reservation. They're a team of dedicated and experienced professionals who aim to please the end customer.
The installers were very careful of my property and completely cleaned up everything very nicely when they were done. Price was exactly per the contract I had and no attempt was made to push and quot;extrasand quot;.
About a week and a half after, the unit had a failure. The service department came right away and the tech worked quite hard to insure it was fixed. Their service department was prompt and professional and on time. The defect appeared to be that of the unit manufacture not anything they did during installation, but Fox made it right.
Installation of new home air conditioning unit and furnace was a major job that was done on schedule and within budget. There were some minor integration issues with the new system and our other existing equipment that required fine-tuning through follow-up service and these were addressed and corrected with exceptional responsiveness. The system is working very well.
Servicing of second a/c/heating system was done efficiently by Fox and identified things that had been missed in recent annual service performed by another company we had been using previously - e.g., low fluids.
