AFLAC

Aflac was the worst insurance we ever purchased. It was a complete waste of time. They use a business model that puts as many forms and waiting periods between you and the reimbursement as possible. I found, it was impossible to get reimbursed for a medical procedure, even if it was covered. All costs are paid upfront by the patient. You submit forms, they question things, then they approve what they say is "reasonable". It has nothing to do with the actual cost. At least a regular health insurance company negotiates the charges with the provider. Aflac does not. Our agent said he shops around to get a dentist who will fill the cavity for below the AFLAC reimbursement rate because it is legal for him to keep the difference. Who does that?!? I like my dentist. I generally want him to do my dental work. I pay for insurance so that I don't have to bicker about the price he charges. Shopping for cut-rate dentists is not my idea of good healthcare. Aflac also have mandatory waiting periods to get the money, which is not released until you REQUEST it. You will need a calendar planner to get any benefit. Paying anything for this plan is a joke. I couldn't have more contempt for a company which preys on the high cost of American health care by making things worse for the patient. They wouldn't even be in business if they had to talk about what they provide instead of hiding behind a cute duck.
