Erik was recommended by the roofing contractor who was putting on a new roof. The chimney had started to crumble on the top layers. He reconstructed the crown, ground out and brick point mortar joints and applied water repellent to full exterior masonry. He also installed a new UL listed stainless steel chimney lining system. Installed a new cap. There was additional damage found to a layer upon work being done and Erik fixed at no additional charge.

E&M were fantastic Eric came to do a chimney inspection on a house we were looking to buy, he was prompt easy to talk to and gave a great explanation of what we were dealing with. When we ultimately closed on the house we had them come out and do the work that needed to be done, they were easy to schedule, and Michelle coordinated everything very easily. I would absolutely hire these guys again, the recommendation to hire them in the first place was one of the best we have gotten.

Erik was on time and very honest and professional in his assessment of my ventilation system and chimney regarding the liner. Turned out the ventilation was fine and the chimney was also fine. Ended up just paying an assessment fee which was very reasonable Erik does all phases of chimney & masonry and I would highly recommend him

Came out on time. Charges were on the high side for an inspection, report took a few days to get and not as detailed as we would have liked for money paid. Repair estimate was too high.

Hired E&M as a result of the recommendation of our plumber who was installing a new hot water boiler. Since we were replacing an existing boiler we had to have a liner put inside the chimney even though the chimney was completely rebuilt 3 years ago. New code requirements. Erik came the same day as the boiler install gave me an estimate and the guys were here the next morning to install a new stainless steel chimney liner. The basement wall was stone and cement and the guys took about 6 hours to do the install because of having to get through this wall. They had a great attitude considering the extra work involved and did a great job. Their price was also fair. They cleaned up perfectly too.

I replaced my hot water heater and the plumber would not sign off on the chimney liner since it was out of spec, municipal code.
I had estimates from 4 different companies ranging from $1500 to $4000 to replace the chimney liner.
E&M was the winner. They replaced the liner with no problem.

It went very well. After being told all the work that was needed, and then to be told by Erik not necessary - we were a little skeptical. But as he said, only when we actually used the fireplace would we know if more work was necessary - and that he'd be happy to come back. Made it through a long, cold winter and used the fireplace about a dozen times with no problems at all! Just goes to prove that especially with chimney's get at least 3 estimates - or better yet, save time and just call Erik.

I called them after Hurricane Sandy to see if they could seal a leak in the roof by the chimney. The owner came with a couple of employees an a timely basis and gave me an estimate. I hired them previously to install a chimney liner. I hired them again to seal the roof leak. A month after the job was completed, I notified the company that the leak was still present. My complaint was ignored. I complained again in January. The owner came on a rainy evening to look at the leak from the attic and told me that he would be back in a couple of days to reseal the chimney. No one ever came back. I complained again and was told that the owner wanted to wait for warmer weather. I finally got them to come last week after informing them that I was ready to file a complaint with Consumer Affairs. Flashing cement was reapplied, and the chimney and flashing were flooded with a waterproofing sealant that caused the black flashing cement to run down the sides of the roof and stain the shingles. I complained about this three days later, sending the company a photograph of the stained shingles. So far, I haven't even had an apology for the sloppy workmanship or an offer to replace the stained shingles.
This company lost a customer. For a company that advertises that they pride themselves on customer satisfaction, they have a strange way of showing it.
Update: 4/20/2013. The company refunded the money I paid to have the leak sealed.

"We returned every phone call and email. We told him if the leak persisted that he needed extensive roof repair, but that weather permitting we'd be back to re-seal the area. I spoke with him again in the last month and told him when the weather was over 55 degrees and it didn't rain for more than 2 days straight we would come back and re-seal the area, but before we could even do that he called again. I did tell him again that if for any reason it doesn't help we will refund your money and then I explained again that he would need extensive roof work, his answer was "everyone eventually needs a new roof". I then knew the only way to satsify him was to send him a full refund, he said that would be fine. Told him we would give him a full refund, which was $350.00, and we did! He received the check and cashed it within the last week. And now he has the nerve to write this kind of review! I want to know what I can do about this completely unfair review, and the only negative review we've ever received on Angie's List? I am appalled that after you refund someones money in full and they said that would be fine, that can be allowed to write such a review about your company. We've been in business 20 years, for a reason! We always strive to help and satisfy our customers. We give someone a full refund, which they say would be fine and that would be the end of it and satisfy him, and now get this review. It's just not right."

I am very happy with the service I received. I received a call the night before to confirm the appointment. I was contacted again to let me know that the crew was running late and were working on an emergency. Since I needed only a sweep and it was getting late and the weather was questionable, I advised them that I would be just as happy to have them come another day. I received another date and they came on time, did the work, and provided me with an estimate for the 2nd chimney. They were professional and friendly and I will use them again.
My chimney will need to be rebuild and they advised that it would not be urgent and I should consider the work of the 2nd chimney in spring. I greatly appreciated the honesty and not being pressured into having the work done immediately. They get my vote!!

Great guys, very professional and most importantly honest!!! I got several bogus estimates from chimney guys that came to do a "free inspection" or a "29.99 chimney cleaning" to perform thousands of dollars of work that I felt was completely unnecessary . I have an oil boiler so my chimney flue needed to be cleaned. A chimney liner was installed several years ago so Matt suggested a cleaning every 2-3 yrs. Everyone tried to sell me on a liner for the fireplace which was rarely used but Matt was honest and told me it would be a huge waste of money, which is what I always thought. I originally got the number to this business from a real estate agent/friend and I am so happy I did! This will be the only chimney company I will ever use and I trust them completely. Extremely knowledgeable, professional, and quick. For once you'll get what you pay for! The chimney cleaning is a little pricey but the honesty, comprehensive evaluation, and piece of mind that you are not being ripped off is priceless in my opinion. Its a little tedious and time consuming to write reviews on every single product bought online but I truly felt compelled and inspired to write this review so take it for what its worth!

They explained everything to me and the bottom line was that there was nothing that they could do. They did not charge me even a penny. They were honest and reliable. I could not think of anything better to say about them. It took a couple of days for them to come out which was fine. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

Out of the three estimates I received, his was the lowest. He came, inspected the chimney, and even stayed to remove the blockage at the bass of the chimney at no charge, and without a guarantee that he would get the job of installing the new liner. I wasn't pestered with follow-up phone calls. When I was ready to do the job, they supplied copies of insurance certificates at my request, along with a copy of their Nassau County license. Eric was amenable to my special request to put insulation around the new chimney liner at the roof-line. Also, at my request, using a leaf blower that I supplied, they blew off the pine needles that had accumulated on the main roof of the house. Again, this was at no extra charge. Don't expect to get a course on how chimneys work or a course on chimney liners. They're not there to teach you how to do it yourself, but to do the job for you. Any reasonable request will be considered, in my opinion.

I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY FOR SEVERAL HOME IMPROVEMENT SERVICES, AND THEY ARE GREAT. I FEEL I WAS OVERCHARGED FOR THE SERVICES THAT WERE PROVIDED. THEY CLEANED THE CHIMNEY SO WELL THAT NOW THE CHIMNEY BLOWS OUT CLEAR SMOKE.
