Timberkrete

I was adding a small bar and entertainment area in my family room and ended up hiring Timberkrete (Jessie). Their portfolio looked fantastic and when I first spoke with them, it seemed they were very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I was interviewing several companies, but ended up settling on Timberkrete and got a verbal quote. I sent him the specifics for the project, which included a rough sketch and some notes and requested a formal quote and contract. After a week I reached out to them about what the status was and got an apology for not getting a formal quote over, but asked if i was still interested in using him for the project. I responded affirmatively and he seemed excited to do the project. He said he'd get the formal quote over in the next day or so, which never happened. Shortly after this, I had to make some modifications and reached out to him with the changes, to which he got back to me with another verbal quote and made arrangements to meet at my house to build a template for the countertop then install it later in the week. I scheduled the other contractors to complete tile work and other activities once Timberkrete finished, so other trades were banking on him completing on time. I tried reaching out to Jessie the day before our scheduled meeting to get an approximate time I could expect him as I had to make sure someone would be at the house (I too work for a living). He never responded and didn't show up, I wasted pretty much my entire day hanging around and texting /calling him. After a couple dozen texts and phone calls over the next three days he finally got back to me and said he was sick, to give him a couple days and he'd reschedule with me. Not sure if he was so sick he couldn't send a text stating he'd need to reschedule before the original meeting, but at this point i just said to let me know when we could reschedule and hoped he'd get better soon. After three more days i reached out to him and got no response. After dozens of phone calls and text messages pleading for some update over the course of two weeks, I finally gave up and had to start back at ground zero with a new contractor. The ordeal set my project back weeks. I understand things come up in life, but just going dark and leaving me hanging was terribly un-professional. Had he just said he could no longer take on the project, I could've recovered with minimal delays to the other trades. At least I could tell them that we'd have to reschedule for later in the month and not leave them hanging till the last minute. He may do great work (I'll never know), but I wouldn't hire him if dependability is important to you.
