This company, Residential Property Management, was a referral from a friend with a large, lovely home/yard. The work on my property was done while we were out of town. Returning home, things looked fresh and OK (high contrast black mulch) but then as I walked the yard to investigate new spring growth, I realized that the workers had created extra work for me. Items removed from the beds had not been replaced, worst of all being the drip-irrigation and soaker hose system! Apparently torn out while the old mulch was removed, the hoses were left in a pile on top of the fresh new mulch. Obviously, the hoses are meant to be hidden under the mulch -- this is when I realized the mulch was barely 1/2” thick, impossible for me to hide the hoses under. Areas of the garden with thin groundcover had not been mulched at all, looking strange and very unfinished, literally half-mulched. While I was very disappointed, I knew I could request more mulch. While working outside the next day, I discovered a large pile of grass clippings dumped behind a rhododendren. Almost 3’ deep, this pile would definitely kill the and ground cover and lily of the valley just sprouting underneath. I could not believe a yard work company would even think of doing this. It felt very unprofessional and disrespectful of my property. Further investigation revealed the branches (that I had dragged up the steep hill!) had been tossed back down the hill intead of being removed! My husband called RPM’s owner, James Lembach Jr, and explained my concerns of skimpy mulch. The owner said he would come by during the week to discuss these concerns. So 2 days later, with no prior call or appt, a man (whom I have never seen before) knocking on my door wearing mirrored sunglasses on a foggy, misty morning says “I’m with RPM” -- with a chip on his shoulder, but apparently no name, so I will refer to him as the Henchman. Yes, his intent was to intimidate with attitude and sunglasses. So, even though I had a friend over at the time, I Immediately led the Henchman through my house out to the backyard in my bare feet, took him around, showed him the naked ivy areas, stuck my finger in the mulch in approx 15 random areas to show him the minimal coverage of mulch. Henchman’s response was “that’s more than I have at my house.” I go back in the house, talking to my friend, when Henchman loudly bangs on the door, saying the Boss is on the phone. My friend tells him I’m busy. A minute later he’s banging loudly on the door again, loudly telling my friend that “the Boss wants to talk to Dana” (me). My friend again says I’m still busy. So Henchman is now pacing around my house on his cell phone, glancing in the windows. Meanwhile I am completing my grooming and dressing, as I have errands that must be run that morning -- the bank, etc. I feel like I’m being stalked, and keep thinking he’ll leave. Henchman keeps pacing outside my windows and after approx 15 minutes there’s more loud banging on my back door. My friend goes to the door, and the owner loudly demands, “ I want to talk to Dana” -- my friend says I’m busy. He then loudly, rudely states, “I’ve just come all the way from Webster to address her concerns -- I need to talk to Dana now.” (Remember, that I did not ask him to come at all.) So now there are 4 or 5 men in my yard, and I have had enough of the loud banging on the door, and the loud voices demanding that I drop everything for their surprise visit. There is no way I’m facing this animosity on my own, and I literally don’t have time -- so I back out of the driveway to get started on my errands. Owner calls my husband (who is traveling out of state), who explains to the owner my feelings about loud rude behavior, etc. Owner apologizes for his “foreman’s unacceptable behavior”, but doesn’t seem to include his own similar behavior. I have not paid the $1000 invoice (for labor, and 6 yards of mulch), yes $1000.00. I plan to deduct payment for my time -- spent resetting the irrigation (after I go purchase the pins that hold the hoses, as RPM discarded the ones I had in place), cleaning up the pile of grass clippings, hauling up the branches, etc. And of course I’ll have to do something about increasing the depth of the “dusting” of mulch. Believe me, I’ll do it myself before I ever ask RPM to set foot on my property again.
