This "master electrician" took 5 hours to do this simple job at $85 per hour. He charged $35 per GCFI outlet (retail $9-12 if bought at a store) for 7 outlets: 4 approved (3 bathrooms & 1 basement), 2 not approved and not required (garage), and 1 extra that he never installed - just a complete fraudulent overcharge on top of everything else. Total charge $690.56. He agreed to refund us $100 for overcharging so much (no initial estimate), but quickly cashed our check and never sent the refund. He made a big show of taking the name of the person (now humiliated) who had referred him to us, but never sent the referrer the $20 gas card he mentioned over and over. You've never seen anyone jabber away for so long, and slowly sweep up sawdust for half an hour, and then charge a high rate for every minute of non-work. What a valuable lesson! I'll use Angie's List for my referrals from now on. (Still waiting on that check, bud....) Scares me to think about the quality of this guy's work. But he did show up on time. My initial request? My GFCI bathroom outlets don't work. The answer? The controlling GCFI outlet is in the garage. Actual cost to us should have been $0, plus a standard cost for one sump pump outlet installation.
