Description of Work: replace a porch floor

Description of Work: Did substantial amount of carpentry on both the interior and exterior of our 1880 Folk Victorian house. Gary was punctual, the quality of all work was excellent, his prices were very fair, and I couldn't have been happier with him and his crew. This was a tough job because our house is an unusual structure with a lot of Victorian era architectural details--Gary was great in working within the limitations of trying to maintain the building's architectural integrity at a price we could afford.

Description of Work: Gary replaced the steps and newel posts of our front stairs.

Description of Work: Gary and his crew rebuilt the structural integrity of my 1st floor. They added all new floor joists and two new girders. Gary came to my house in mid-november to assess the job and gave me the estimate about a week late. He started work in mid December which was the time he said he would be able to start. The work quality was very good, though there were some things he could have done a little more carefully, such as using pressure treated woof for the floor joists instead of untreated wood, since they are resting on stone and will decay faster than pressure treated. The big complaint I have is that I had Gary to my house a little over a year ago (October 2011) to look at doing another structural job replacing the sill and box beam on one side of my house. After he came by I never got an estimate in the mail, and I didn't hear from him for several months. I contacted him that next spring in 2012 and he apologized profusely for forgetting about me. I told him no big deal, I was okay with having waited but would love to get the job started and that I was now interested in having him do some residing work on my house. So he came by again to look at the job and then said he'd drop me an estimate within a week or so. I then didn't hear from him for another few months and then one day he came by the house unannounced, with his crew, and took some measurements and then called me to tell me that he wanted to come by when I was home so he could show me his proposal, etc. That was in May of 2012, and it is now November of 2012 and I have not heard anything from him and I have not tried to contact him. I have since hired another contractor and am pleased with them. Gary is well known in town for his workmanship and he is a very nice person. The first experience I had with him was fantastic, and obviously not so with the 2nd experience. If you can get him to get started he will do a great job, but I think his plate is very full.
