Even minor fix-ups in New York City co-ops require reams of paperwork, drawings and approvals before the job can start. Michael carefully worked with us to draft and redraft drawings for submission, saving us architect's fees. Other bidders told us they needed three full months to accomplish the total rehab of our one-bedroom unit. Micheal suggested he could do it in a month's time, and in fact, completed all but finishing touches in five weeks. Throughout the process Michael and his staff made practical suggestions to make the finished product more attractive or more useful. They came up with a dozen tricks to overcome out-of-square walls, wavy floors, misplaced water supply lines and other anomalies one finds in a 90 year old building. Throughout they were respectful of the other owners in our building and observed the extensive work and clean-up rules necessary in a multi-owner building. Not everything went perfectly the first time...we provided a number of European fixtures that needed some figuring out. But, the Demarco staff corrected both operational and aesthetic issues, even when it meant opening walls that had just been completed. Michael was solid with his work promises, but expect him to be solid with his price, too. His proposal was in the middle of the three estimates we received. While I invited him several times to make a discount on that price, he sidestepped the invitation. However, he did everything he said he would, in a professional way, and when reviewing the "extra work" invoice he listed all the tasks that were done, but "comped" many, resulting in an overall cost savings for us. Our friends are amazed by the quality of the work done and the speed with which it was done in a NYC co-op. I've used Demarco on one other total renovation and two extensive painting jobs. He's been great in all cases. All of Demarco's staff are good people, but if you can, get Steve assigned to your job. He's just fabulous. One last point. Michael has a reassuring personality. He genuinely wants you to have the best experience and the best result. Of course he wants to make a living in the process, but you'll enjoy having him help you make your home the one you want to have. (PS. he does complete home construction, too.)
Description of Work: DeMarco completed a total renovation /floors/walls/bath/kitchen for our NYC co-op. They guided us through the approval process of our own co-op board, carefully reviewed our plans and made dozens of recommendations to make the finished product better and more comfortable for us.
