I chose to bring my new Mazda car to Installations Unlimited to have side molding installed; my husband had taken his car there a couple years ago for side molding on his car and was satisfied with their product and their work.  Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience!  It took a couple of months and several visitsbefore I had the correct side molding installed and chips repaired to my car that were caused by Installations Unlimited.  When my husband and I first went to Installations Unlimited, we asked about putting chrome side molding on my car, and an employee directed us to a page in a catalog and he then took down the information, said they would order the molding and call us when it came in.  I made the appointment to leave my car there after the molding came in.  A couple of hours after leaving mycar off, I got a call that the molding was too long for my car, so they’d haveto order shorter side molding.  I did not get a call when that came in, but had to call them to see what the status was on the molding.  It had arrived so I made the second appointment to leave my car.  After I picked up my car from this appointment, I saw a noticeable gap between the car and the curved end of the molding on both back doors.  When we took it back to Installations Unlimited to show them this, they explained that this was due to the curve on the back doors and since the chrome was not flexible, the molding was not flush with the car.  They suggested we bring the car back again and they’d fill in the gaps with some clear filler.  This was done on yet another visit.  A few days later when I opened the back door on the passenger side, I heard a loud metal against metal sound.  It turned out to be that the molding on the back door, when opened, was pressing against the front door.  This, one could see, was due to the thickness of the chrome molding and its placement too close to the front end of the back door.  So, I stopped using the back doors!   When I stopped by IU again, their solution….. order this flexible silver molding that would work well with the curves on the back doors (why didn’t they tell me that in the first place!).   So, a fourth appointment was made (this doesn’t count the two trips back there to show them
the problems we saw with the molding).  Initially, once installed, this replacement molding looked good, but upon closer
inspection, you could see where paint had been chipped off the edge of the front doors and also on the front doors underneath where the chrome molding was.  Their solution… we will order touch up paint and call when it comes in.  Inever got a call.  So, about 10 days later, I called IU only to be told the paint had not been ordered because they did not have my VIN # and had lost my phone number (I’m listed in the phone book, by the way!)!!  After giving them the info, they said they’d call when the paint came in.  Again, I never got the call, so called them about a week later and the paint had come in.  On my final appointment there, they used the touch up paint to repair the chips they were responsible for making on my new car.  My recommendation …. question them on what they are going to install on your car and make sure it will work on your car and/or ask about other options!  There was no reason for us to have gone through two months of hassles and numerous trips to and time spent at IU…. If only IU had helped us make the right choice in molding to begin with instead of ordering and then installing molding that would not work on my car, all of this could have been avoided!
Response from Installations Unlimited
"We would like to apologize for your experience with your body side molding. You are correct it took way to many visits to get it finalized. The experience was not convenient for you and no one would have appreciated the amount of attempts it took to make it right. Since your vehicle we have made some internal changes to how we sell and install body side molding. Thank you for sticking with us to the end. If there is anything we can do for you in the future please let me know. We will do whatever it takes to make it right."

The experience was good. I have used them for years and use them all the time. They do everything related to any kind of mechanism on a car. You make an appointment and go there; they take care of you, you pay them and you leave. If there is anything wrong with it and you go back they will take care of it.

We were told that the job would be completed DEFINITELY by 12 noon, if we brought our car in by 8 AM on the service date. We dropped it off the night before. We did not call before going to pick it up, since we arrived at 2PM.
Once we got there we didn't see it in the parking lot, not a good sign. We went in, talked with the receptionist, who was texting on her cell phone... She said just a moment, stopped her texting, then went over to service. FIVE minutes later, we were asked by her to go over to service. I had to repeat my statement to them, as if they didn't know from the receptionist. I told them I was told it'd be done by noon. "Who told you that?," they asked. "That guy right over there," I said. Well, 'that guy' came over to me and my wife, and flat out lied that he didn't say that. WOW, we were both there when he said it.
After a few moments backtracking, they all apologized. We were then told it's in service now and would be done in 1 hour. OK - TWO hours later we were called on the phone. They didn't leave a message, just hung up when I didn't answer it in time. I called them back, stating they didn't leave a message, and was told by the lady on the phone that she got a message that voicemail was not setup, so she couldn't leave a message. Interesting, as VM DOES work, I DO test it periodically.
SO, when we arrived to pick it up, we asked to be shown how to use the remote starters. I also asked for a manual, I was told that one was in the car. Fine. Well, after driving around, I tried to use the lcd 2 way unit that we paid extra for, and couldn't figure something out. I looked at the instruction book, they didn't give us all the manuals. They didn't even show us were the unit was installed when we were there to pick up the vehicle.
The next day I called them about the book not being provided. I was transferred FIVE times on the phone, each time without being told I was going to be transferred, each time I had to explain the whole thing over again! I was finally told the name of the unit, so I could download the booklet myself online. As I was trying to ask another question, this last guy HUNG UP ON ME.
I was originally going to get heated seats added to this vehicle by them, but no longer. We will NOT be going back for any services from this company.
