We've been bringing our cats to Dr. Martin Downey (owner and head vet of Companion Care) ever since he opened his practice in Wheatfield, now some dozen years ago (I'm guessing; can't remember exactly how long ago, but it's been quite a while). We live in Youngstown, so it's a bit of a drive, but well worth it. He's seen us through years of normal cat care, plus wrenching terminal feline illnesses (kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, dementia). He and his staff are particularly sensitive when you lose an animal. They handle the euthanasia process as professionally but compassionately as one would want. And Dr. Downey sends lovely hand-written cards -- he writes them himself -- addressing you and the particular animal and your relationship to it. Some of the services are pricey, but not more so than other vets (and less so than some); that's just the state of medical pet-care these days.

During the first visit, the vet sat right on the floor in the examining room and let the puppy come to him. Dr. Dave was very patient with my hyperactive, squirmy puppy and took his time making sure that everything was fine. A month after the first visit, I took my puppy and her mother (owned by my daughter) to be spayed. The staff cuddled and comforted the dogs when we dropped them off, and after the surgeries, the staff allowed both my puppy and my daughter's dog to recover in the same kennel. We picked them up later that evening and the girls at the desk were extremely thorough when they went over the discharge instructions and told us to call if anything should happen.
aI'm definitely keeping Companion Care for veterinarian services for my dog!
