We thought we needed a new leach field, as "water" was collecting on one side. Every other place I called suggested redoing the whole system, field and tank. Most others didn't even bother to come look. They just said "replace it. That will be 8,000-10,000. Want grass planted over the top? Add 1,000."
I called Brundage, and I am glad I did. They were very responsive on the phone. Bonnie gave me a valuable education about my septic system, and told me who I needed to contact to get a map of the entire septic system, and what steps I could take to reduce the cost of them servicing our system--in other words, WE dug the holes and provided access to the top of the septic tank and our distribution box so Brundage could do the work.. We went and bought a new distribution box cover too, on Brundage's advisement. Ours was crumbling. We were happy to do it. It saved us a lot of money.
Brundage came right out to my house to have a look. They identified the problem and, at the time of service, resolved it quickly for a reasonable amount of money. They didn't push for work we didn't need.
They didn't come out to actually fix it for months because it was such a wet Spring in 2014 and Brundage prioritized customers in emergency situations (septic back up into the house etc.). They followed though on their commitment to get the work done before winter, which is what I had asked. They pumped and cleaned the tank and cut about a 12-16" hole with a six inch riser and concrete cover, which we can bury. They adjusted the distribution box flow regulators, and now water flows evenly though our leach field, resolving our problem. (We put the dirt back over the box and the tank.)
It is now a year later. Our leach field is much drier, and we can mow over it normally. No more yucky water collecting on one side. We have a small tank for our household size, so we need to get it pumped yearly. The large access hole will help ensure that it can be cleaned out right. (Before there was only a six inch opening to send the hose down.) Thank you Brundage!
They really helped turn what could have been a truly miserable experience into a short inconvenience.
I advice people to do their homework and ask about pricing and options before scheduling an appointment with area plumbers. It was also worthwhile to keep an eye on the lowest drain point in the house to spot trouble early before it is too late and you are at the mercy of this and other plumbers.
"Another plumber was at his home and could not open the line. That plumber recommended calling our company. When a line cannot be opened by another company, high pressure cleaning is necessary. We successfully opened the line and charged the customer for a high pressure cleaning. When the customer complained about the price, we gave him the high pressure cleaning at half our regular price."
We set a date and they said they would call when they were on their way. As promised, I received a call saying the guy was on his way. Mike was very helpful and patient. Seemed like he really wanted to solve the problem, not just get the water flowing and run off to the next job. As I had done this so many times before, I hovered over Mike and told him what I had done before and he (patiently) explained to me what he was doing. The things he told me helped give a better understanding of what I had done wrong before and that the system wasn’t actually in really bad shape. Rather, he believed it was the kinds of things were flushing, like quilted TP and baby wipes. These don't dissolve and were getting stuck to the rough sides and joints of the pipes. That, combined with the incomplete job of cleaning I had done likely caused the recurrence.
He said that he did not believe a video inspection would be necessary, that there was no need for me to spend extra money for something that was not necessary. He spent about an hour working on the sewer making sure it was clean in both directions.
The actual bill was $135.00, which was under the estimate I was given over the phone.
Bottom line, I will call Brundage Drain Doctor any time I need this type of service in the future. (And I will ask for Mike!)
ur neighbor recommeded the drain doctor. They came out quickly and the plumber was very personable. We explained our problem and he joked that he would definatly figure it out. Within 10 minutes he found the issue and was just a valve on a pipe directed the wrong way. He fixed it with his hand and we had hot water immediantly. We have had the drain doctor out for some other minor issues after that and have had 100% satisfaction. They are our plumber for life!!!
